1955 Mod - Various AI Fixes v1.2

#1

Post by PTRACER »

This patch has been updated to v1.2 and now tentatively includes the following:
Added a feature which detects whether a car is on the Monza10k banking or not and prevents the game from slowing the AI cars down.
In the default 1955 mod, in order to prevent the AI from cornering too fast, the AI cornering speed goal is set to to 90% of the value in the race.lp file. However, since the Monza banking is considered a corner by the game, it forces the AI to slow down even though the player can take the banking at full speed. This makes races with the AI uninteresting. The patch therefore detects if the AI is on the Monza10k banking and if so, sets the cornering speed goal back to 100%.
*Note that the Monza10k banking feature is highly dependent on the AI file being used. It does not work at any other circuits.
I am currently working on an updated race.l55 file and will release it once it is up to a good enough standard.

As a reminder, these are the features that were already implemented in the patch as of v1.1:
1. By default, GPL 1955's AI cars use too much steering lock in the turns, giving the impression they are constantly understeering. This mod remaps the AI's steering ratio to reduce this effect.

2. The amount of suspension deflection for the 1955's AI cars has always been excessive, particularly on the Monza banking. This sometimes results in the AI cars bottoming out and having an accident. This patch limits the amount of suspension movement for each AI car to reduce the chances of this happening and visually looks better as well. (However, the AI suspension may look a little "stiff" at other circuits.)

3. Fixed a bug which caused the AI's tyres to be clipping with the ground. This has the added bonus of reducing the "droopy" suspension look of some of the AI cars.

4. Reduced the revs of the AI cars before the race start, since several of them exceed their maximum RPM revving on the grid, potentially affecting reliability.

5. Modified the Gordini and Vanwall AI cars to make them a little faster off the grid (player physics unaffected)
