I presume they will use the same layout as Superbikes last year? (no track changes since then?).
There are three astroturf run-offs, relatively narrow at Piratella & Aqua Minerali and the big one at Variante Alta. I guess F1 cars will notoriously run wide at Variante Alta.
There was still gravel at Tamburello, Villeneuve, Tosa & Rivazza for SBK.
Variante Bassa (aka the 'little chicane' @Everso Biggyballies ) has been removed, it's basically a kink now which probably explains the difference in track lenght compared to vintage F1 days which is below 5 kilometres now.

It will be strange to see Imola on our screens again after so long away. None of us who witnessed it will forget that fateful weekend in 1994 and to be honest, nor should we.
Will it give us a good race? That depends on many things, I wouldn't bet against Mercedes winning it though, that is a fact.

There is an atmosphere and the giant nuclear furnace in the sky that tends to mess with it. Then you got teams being rather secretive with their drag figures, FIA will have a ballpark figure but that's about it. Finally there are the tyres that seemingly not even their builders totally understand.DoubleFart wrote: ↑3 years ago Can't wait to see how badly wrong they get the drs zone. Why aren't they able to simulate it, given that the teams know exactly how much drag their car will have, what speed it'll exit the turn onto the drs zone, what the gap between cars will be off that turn etc.
Just make the drs so it puts the car alongside, and not clearly past them.

Special 110th Anniversary livery for Alfa Romeo
The team will celebrate the 110th anniversary of Alfa Romeo by running a special livery in the Emily Romanoff Grand Prix (to give it its correct name) this weekend.
As yet no piccies, just an announcement that it will..... Created by the Centro Stile design division, it features the Italian flag on the engine cover and rear wing endplate. Does not sound that startling but wait and see.
The car will also carry a 'Welcome back Imola' message. *Shrugs*.
Edit: Found an image of the livery. Not that special from the pic tbh. Seems to be a bit similar to their special Italian GP livery last year.

There's definitely a few pandemics in my trainers , and I don't exert myself like him
The board equivalent of the Jody scheckter chicane. Fast but pointless

Hehehe..... what you call trainers are known here as a pair of runners. (Mate.)
A pair of trainers are something else completely. If you asked for trainers they would try and sell you a training bra.... or a bra for girls who might be of that stage that they might need to start wearing a bra.
Just sayin.

Actually I struggle to remember any races at Imola in depth as well...Hakkinen crashing in 1999 maybe? My overriding memory is the same as what someone else said, ITV cutting to the ads with 4 laps to go during a nailbiting finish.

Its a bit of a sad reflection on Imola races when many of us remember what we did not see rather than what we did see!

I think it is better to say that Imola’s best period was well before I started watching, or was even alive. That is to say the 1980s up until about 1990-1.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑3 years agoIts a bit of a sad reflection on Imola races when many of us remember what we did not see rather than what we did see!
Since the late 90s the circuit has seemed too narrow and twisty, although maybe it is better now since the layout was revised again? I’ll be fascinated to see what 2020 F1 cars are like there anyway.

I cant get my head around a 2 day GP..... I just looked at the TV Guide to check what time P1 and P2 was on this evening, Of course to find nothing. It had slipped my mind it was a 2 day meeting with just a single practice and qualy tomorrow and the race on Sunday.
Im sure I will get used to the 2 day concept but not sure how the teams will cope with it. A new track to all intents and purposes and no real set up time. I guess the Sim drivers are as I type cranking out endless laps of Imola on their sims, replicating all the quirks of the track and refining what the teams will run with in P1 tomorrow.
Anyway here is the schedule for the action. Local Imola times.
Saturday 31OCT Practice
10:00 - 11:30.
Saturday 31 OCT. Qualifying
14:00 - 15:00
Sunday 01 NOV. Race
13:10 - 15:10

Haha good one but honestly Italian TV programmes are usually quite a spectacle - especially the game shows before the news. The showgirls are missing too!!

I do agree the the racing there hasn’t been too great and I was so frustrated when Schumacher couldn’t get past Alonso in 2005. Ralf’s win in 2001 was also a good race.

Just remembered 1991 when in the wet race Prost and Berger went off on the warm up lap. And JJ Lehto got the Scandinavians excited by finishing on the podium in his Dallara.
Actually I didnt remember but rather got reminded by this video of 10 Imola moments on this link. I do remember well now seeing them go off on the warmup lap.
