Some say that whatever gave Ferrari their mid season straight line speed has been closely scrutinised and since the scrutiny they have lost their speed advantage. I think it was believed they have found some way around the fuel burn limits.
Yes, Red Bull asked the FIA if such a system was legal, without directly pointing out Ferrari of course, the FIA said no, and suddenly Ferrari had the straight line speed of a wet lettuce.

Interesting coincidence, that.

Well, we wondered what had happened to him following his split with Red Bull this year......
Frying pan, fire etc springs to mind.

DAN TICKTUM JOINS WILLIAMS RACING DRIVER ACADEMY
ROKiT Williams Racing is pleased to announce that Dan Ticktum has joined the team’s driver academy in the role of Development Driver.

Dan is a two-time winner of the famed Macau Grand Prix, tasting success in 2017 and 2018, whilst he also finished as runner-up in the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He was awarded the prestigious BRDC McLaren Autosport Award in 2017 and was voted Autosport National Driver of the year in 2018. The 20-year-old made his Formula One test debut earlier this year in Bahrain with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, and also drove in the post-Spanish Grand Prix test in Barcelona. Earlier this month, Dan was announced as a DAMS driver for the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

As a Development Driver, Dan will be fully immersed into the team both trackside and at the factory at Grove, where he will use his previous experience to conduct simulator work and help with car development. Alongside a busy simulator programme, he will also attend two Grands Prix with full driver integration across the engineering and marketing teams. Dan will also carry the academy logo on his FIA Formula 2 Championship overalls and car.

Speaking about the announcement, Dan Ticktum said; “It is a privilege to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy, especially given Williams’ incredible heritage in our sport. The time in the simulator and experience working with the team will prove invaluable for my development. Being fully integrated into the operations will be a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to assisting wherever I can.”

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, commented; “I am delighted that Dan, another exciting young British talent, has joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy. His ability behind the wheel has been demonstrated with back-to-back successes at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018. Dan’s technical expertise will prove invaluable to the team and we are looking forward to helping him grow and develop in 2020.”

Here in Italy the community is completely split between Vettel and Charles supporters; sometimes it's fun to read their opinions and how they try to defend their favourite driver. This news wasn't an exception, I've already seen a lot of people complaining about this and others supporting the decision.

In my opinion that was expected, Charles had a wonderful season and he has shown to be a great driver who needs to improve some aspects. Ferrari definitely wants to win the title with him and it's going to be interesting to see how they will handle two fast drivers in the next year and after beyond.

Vettel will be out after next year. And then Ferrari will attract a good number 2 - I think Bottas.

And Robert Kubica clings to his F1 dream as the newly appointed Alfa Romeo reserve driver.

It seems like it is to appease the new Alfa sponsor..... Kubica’s signing coincides with the arrival of Polish petroleum company Orlen to Alfa Romeo as co-title sponsor on a multi-year partnership, with the squad officially rebranded Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN.

So full circle, returning to the one time Sauber team where he started. As did Kimi.

Verstappen extends with Red Bull to 2023

Max Verstappen has signed a contract extension with Red Bull good until the end of the 2023 season, locking in another of the key prospects who were out of contract at the end of this year.

Alongside Sebastian Vettel and the two Mercedes drivers, Verstappen’s previous deal was due to expire after the 2020 season and opened up the potential for major moves in the driver market. However, following Charles Leclerc’s new five-year deal with Ferrari announced last month, Verstappen has now committed to Red Bull for the next four seasons.

Mercedes might reportedly end its dominant F1 effort, and Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll could take it over and turn it into an Aston Martin team.

Mercedes has appointed former McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne as its reserve driver for the 2020 F1 season.

Vandoorne, who raced for McLaren between 2016 and 2018, is currently competing in Formula E with Mercedes and is leading the championship heading into this weekend’s race in Mexico.

Never say never . . . If Albon is not doing what he should this year (if we will race at all) why not sign him? Ricciardo and Verstappen pushed the team forward

So how is the current 2021 F1 lineup looking?

Presumably:

Mercedes: Hamilton / Bottas
Ferrari: Leclerc / Sainz
RBR: Verstappen / ???
McLaren: Norris / Ricciardo
Renault: Ocon / Alonso

That leaves the other 5 teams and a bunch of drivers with a few decisions to make. Including Vettel.
