I would have to say the old Zandvoort is truly missed. The new one is disgusting and it's hard to imagine there will be an F1 race there again.

I was coming in here with Osterreichring but yea, I'll agree with Zandvoort too. At least the Red Bull Ring still has the same basic flow of the grand old circuit, albeit much more muted, but Zandvoort today is not even a shadow of what it was once you get past the first sector.

The Nürburgring 1984 - 2001 was a fun track - those first two corners were a 'nasty' mix.
And Hockenheim until 2001 often didn't produce the best races, but at least it was unique.

These ones. I also miss the original Bus Stop and La Source sections of Spa.

Oh yes, the old Bus stop...so satisfying to watch. The new slow and slithery off-camber version does provide more overtaking chances, I'll admit but I'd rather the old layout remained.

Easy.
Such a beautiful track. It was decidedly old-school, but still felt very modern compared to the tracks in GPL. It was still damn good for A1GP, ChampCar and even NASCAR in 2006 or so, what they did to it is inexcuseable. (Remember that race when Montoya wrecked Scott Pruett, his teammate out of the lead in the NASCAR Busch race? Hahaha!)
but also
Red Bull Ring is still a beautiful spot of land, and I don't mind it at all as it is (was there for the DTM race last year), and I never witnessed any racing from the original Österreichring, so I can't really include it.

Ah yes, the site of countless GPL pile-ups.
And if that didn't finish you off, one of those annoying Polo mints embedded at every apex would.

very much agreed with this. I liked how you had that 'guttter' in the old La Source, and had to drive right up to the guardrail - a bit of a street characteristic on such a challenging track.
I'd also say Imola (partially) - with today's safety standards, I don't think Tamburello would ever be a problem.

I kind of feel like Spa has been butchered just as much as some of these other tracks we mentioned. The white lines they painted on the tarmac might follow the lines of the original circuit, but corners like Pouhon and Blanchimont are so much less iconic without grass or gravel.

I hope we are not limiting this to F1, because the greatest tragedy has to be the butchering of the Mulsanne straight at Circuit de la Sarthe, LeMans.

I think you could definitely apply this to Silverstone too. When you drive a slower car on the modern f1 layout, especially something like a 60s touring car, there seems to be very few consequences for making a mistake beyond losing time.PTRACER wrote: ↑4 years ago I kind of feel like Spa has been butchered just as much as some of these other tracks we mentioned. Unfortunately I have to agree with the Mulsanne straight being butchered. I guess they had to add the chicanes for the sake of safety but it doesn't feel like they made any attempt to make them interesting.

For me Silverstone was butchered from 1994 onward. For a lot of people it was butchered the time the Woodcote chicane was first installed. I get Paul's point on Spa. While the circuit is almost untouched the swaths of tarmac run-off have taken away it's soul.
