The layout looks half promising.

I actually think the circuit looks pretty good. I can see maybe three decent-ish overtaking opportunities, and not too many corners in-between them for the chasing car to negotiate in dirty air.. a good variety of corners, plus some nice fast sweeps. Nothing too gimmicky either. I think it could produce some great racing.

Some things that maybe escape the big picture. Florida has no state tax so that's a win for the organizers & F1. Hard Rock Stadium is effectively owned by Miami Dolphins which means it's owned by Stephen M. Ross - the third richest NFL owner after Stan Kroenke & David Tepper. This isn't your crazy ass millionaire kid who doesn't know what to do with money he inherited from his grandpa. His wife designs jewelry for Oprah, M.Obama and a bunch of these Hollywood stars (despite Ross being a Republican supporter).

The Miami-Dade county approval is effectively a given, Stephen M. Ross is not a guy whom you refuse just like that. The Dolphins are tanking this season and hoping to scoop the new QB for next year. The otherwise huge WTA Premier Mandatory /ATP Masters 1000 tournament has moved here from nearby Key Biscayne in 2019 already. If Ross is all in on F1 that means races will be held here no matter what.

My thoughts exactly.

Look, it could be a narrow Formula E mess. But the layout itself looks fine. Unless the 'straight curves' are too tight for cars to follow, it should be okay?

I don't care if the layout is good or not as I'm very close to this track. Looking forward to the formula "whatever" within driving distance. I guess as long as it isn't Caesars Palace bad, it will be a good thing.

With Penske's subsidiary having acquired Indianapolis, they are eyeing to have F1 back.
I honestly think it wasn't too bad a track - perhaps I see it with rose-tinted glasses after my favourite driver's final win there.

one of the tracks where DRS actually may lead to good races.

I get some serious Sochi vibes. Pancake flat, concrete walls, one never ending turn, the by-now mandatory age long straight follow by a hard braking zone to have an overtaking spot with DRS, and generally underwhelming.

On the upside, it's not in Russia. Well, technically, anyway.

The key difference in my opinion is the distance between overtaking zones. Sochi has two overtaking spots but there are five or six corners between them, meaning chasing drivers struggle to stay close to the car in front from one zone to the next.

This circuit seems to have three or four overtaking spots, with two or three corners in-between. That should be the difference between a decent racetrack and a.. well.. Sochi

Besides, I like the never ending turns when they're flat out. Watching the cars go through in formation, or even side by side, is pretty sweet
