Bottom post of the previous page:

Matt Stone Racing bring an old livery out of the closet at Bathurst, adopting a retro SP Tools livery for the Commodore Todd Hazelwood and Jack Smith will share.

The SP Tools colours offer a throwback to the design run on Shane van Gisbergen’s Stone Brothers Racing Falcon in 2012. SP Tools backed SVG from 2008-12, at the team co-owned by Matt Stone’s father Jim.

The reference to Leesa on the front of the bonnet is the tribute the livery will pay to the late wife of SP Tools CEO Kevin Davis, Leesa, who recently passed away. She had always wanted to go for a few laps around Bathurst.

“Kevin Davis would like to use this opportunity to give Leesa one last ride around Bathurst to pay respect to her and have her name going around the Mountain,”

Breaking the Bathurst time barriers

Interesting article detailing the way times have come down over the years, from the 2m16.969s Klaus Ludwig, did in the Top 10 Shootout, 1987 right through to the '3' set by Scotty Mac.

Will we see a 2.02 this year? Many think that if conditions are right we will.

I thought the race time this year was at 11.00 am local time, but I was wrong. It is actually worse (for me anyway, trying to minimise the clash with the Japanese GP) as the start is 11.30am local. (Those in UK bear in mind we put our clocks forward last weekend so we are now +10 hours on UK time. Thats obviously +9 on Europe.)

Maybe time to post the full schedule for the event. I have highlighted the V8 SC events.

For those not able to watch on TV there is a live stream available. It is a subscription service but it is offering a free 14 day trial.
Live stream the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship on KAYO SPORTS. Every practice, qualifying & race Live & On-Demand in HD. Get your 14 day free trial >https://www.kayosports.com.au/?marketin ... her=LAUNCH
I not sure what the process for a free trial is, as I dont need to stream Bathurst, getting the same coverage on Foxtel. I guess there must be a way you can take up the trial with Kayo, use the service and then decline to continue after the 14 day free trial is over. :dunno:

And now we have the wildcard entry Kosteki Bros Commodore livery.... yet another to feature the Boost Mobile logos. The car is quite a well used one .... it has been painstakingly constructed and updated to Commodore ZB spec by the family owned Queensland team from what was a Triple Eight built VF Commodore previously campaigned in Super2.

They are the youngest pairing in the field with brothers Jake and Brodie 19 and 21 respectively.

Another Bathurst livery, this one from Erebus Penrite.
It is basically just a bit of a tweak of their normal livery, with a bit more gold. Looks good though.

Image

Garry Rogers Racing Boost Mobile will also have an updated livery for the enduro races on both of their two cars.

Richie Stanaway is joined by Chris Pither in the #33 entry, while James Golding teams with Richard Muscat in the #34

The Thursday sessions are over for the 1000, McLaughlin and Whincup went fastest in the main driver sessions. McLaughlin broke the practice/qualy record in the final sessions today.

https://www.speedcafe.com/2019/10/10/mc ... d-session/

The Mustangs all look very quick still although Triple 8 are on the pace too. Erebus have had a bit of a rough start because Youlden crashed the #9 car very hard this morning putting them out until tommorow. The Indycar guys have been well off the pace so far, they're just trying to get used to the track atm.

Certainly rocketship pace for this stage of the weekend, with three cars in the 2:03's. Seeing a 2:03 maybe weather dependant with some rain forecast tomorrow for qualifying before Saturday's Top 10 Shootout.

Seems the extra downforce they are generating with all the aero tweaks handed out of late is giving them the times. The downside is as SVG and Rick Kelly have pointed out, passing will be difficult as the following cars are very unstable running close to the car in front. SVG said following someione close over the mountain was diabolical. Tin Tops getting F1-itis. :(

So, track position, particularly in the second half of the race, and by extension pitstop strategy is going to be key. Not so much qualifying obviously, being a 1000 km 6-ish hour race. In fact pole position has not won the race now for 10 years, when Tander and Davison won from pole in 2009.

The David Reynolds/Luke Youlden entry is likely to be ruled out until qualifying on Friday

Despite the damage, the team is confident it can repair the car on site and has all the components at its disposal to complete the job.

It is a task that is likely not to be completed until tomorrow afternoon with the squad to replace sections of the chassis and straighten rails in both the front and rear of the car.
“It’s extensive damage but it’s nothing we can’t fix,” said Penrite Racing CEO Barry Ryan.

“(We’re) cutting tubes, replacing tubes, straightening rails, replacing lots of parts.

“The target now is just to get out for qualifying.

“The car is fast, qualifying is where we need to be, the rest doesn’t matter.

“Two one-hour sessions tomorrow don’t mean nothing because the car is fast.

“The rear is the same. Roll-bars, roll-tubes at the rear as well, but it’ll be alright.

“I think the worst parts are actually OK, the things that can put you out for the weekend are OK.

“But we’re still assessing it. At the moment it looks like it’ll be right. 24 hours I reckon.”

2014 Bathurst had an exciting finish with a last lap pass....

It was an interesting race with a mid race red to repair the track. It was at over 7 hours the longest Bathurst in history. Here are the race highlights. focusing on Whincups refusal to pit on repeated occasions.

Here are the last few laps in full.

The Whincup/Lowndes car just crashed in the fourth session. Stanaway crashed in front of him just after Skyline and Jamie basically had to put it in the wall to avoid him.

P5 times

McLaughlin fastest with a new lap record, Heimgartner as the lead Nissan in second from Waters, Reynolds as the lead Holden runner, and Coulthard round out the top five.

(This shows over a minute left, but in fact Rossi went off in the last minute and they threw a red that finished the session, so it is the end of session times..)

McLaughlin on provisional pole in wet qualifying

The biggest names to miss tomorrow afternoon’s Shootout were McLaughlin’s team-mate Fabian Coulthard, who qualified 16th in the #12 Mustang, and Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds, who put the #9 ZB Commodore back in 22nd on the grid.

Armor All Qualifying Top 10: McLaughlin, Mostert, Van Gisbergen, Davison, Slade, Percat, Whincup, Waters, Winterbottom and De Pasquale. The group will progress to tomorrow's Top 10 Shootout.

Grid P11 - P26: Kelly, Stanaway, Heimgartner, Pye, Hazelwood, Coulthard, De Silvestro, Courtney, Golding, Holdsworth, Jacobson, Reynolds, Jones, B Kostecki, Rossi and Le Brocq.

The next session is the half-hour Practice 6, tomorrow from 0940 local time

Quite an exciting end to qualifying as a dry line started to appear and the top ten altered dramatically even after the chequered flag.
