Bottom post of the previous page:

Now at 3/4 distance and Scott who pitted early is suffering with tyres as Will Davison who stopped very late has just passed him for second. Mostert also closing on Scott.

Whincup wins for the first time this season with Davison getting 23Red's first podium since they rebranded from LDM. McLaughlin got 4th, he and DJRTP seemed to be having a bit of an off day (although he did qualify on the front row). For a race at QR it was fairly decent overall.

Yeah I quite enjoyed it. Happy for Davo and Team 23 Red.... he has been there or thereabouts all weekend. Quite a transformation from the underperforming LDM they morphed from. Always good to see a genuine privateer team at the pointy end.

Been reading rumours that Team 23 Red may expand to two cars next year.

McLaughlin wins race 2. SVG got very close though, I thought he might get by at one point. So the last 5 laps or so were interesting, rest of the race was a classic QR procession though.

Enjoyed those last laps. I felt for sure SVG would get him but Scotty defended well and had saved enough tyre to hang in.

What a great performance so far for Randle.... 4th in P1, 10th in the all important P2 (qualifies straight into Q2).

Meanwhile Red Bull are both slower than last year by a margin, both missing the Q2 cut with Whincup down in 25th place in P2, SVG 16th.
Scotty Mac fastest by a margin though.

Messy first lap, Jones and Randle went off at turn 1 (seperately?) and Davison got spun by Kelly collecting Simona and Hazelwood who've got a fair bit of damage.

And there's shock and amazement as McLaughlin wins from Mostert with DePasquale way down the road in 3rd. Heimgartner nearly got Winterbottom for 4th.

There were a few good battles back in the pack, otherwise it was pretty quiet.

Today's race was fairly dull. It looked like it might be a decent one in the first half, McLaughlin got a bad start and fell behind Davison and Whincup, Whincup tried to pass Davison but screwed it up and McLaughlin passed him instead. Davison stayed into the lead until he had a minor engine fire in the second pitstop putting McLaughlin in front and ruining a potential battle for the win. Davo held off Mostert for 2nd after a short battle.

Chaz has now overtaken Coulthard (who's been pretty mediocre recently) to be the best driver points-wise who isn't McLaughlin.

********

I'm not very keen on this track replacing Sandown as an endurance event next year (as they announced yesterday), aside from the history of Sandown I'd say it's the most soulless track on the schedule outside of maybe QR.

It doesn't seem terribly interesting to drive aside from a couple of corners. Racing wise TCR and Super3 were alright here this year but not outstanding, and the Supercars races so far have been dull or average and I can't see a 500km race here being any more interesting.

A nice touch for the upcoming Pukekohe Auckland Sprint V8 round is Brad Jones remembering Jason Richards with a Richards used livery....
Brad Jones Racing has prepared a tribute to the late Jason Richards with a special livery for Tim Slade’s Commodore at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

The #14 ZB Commodore will be dressed in a red, white and blue design similar to that carried by Richards in his final season with BJR in 2010, before the popular Kiwi eventually succumbed to cancer the following year.

In addition to the livery change, Slade’s car will be backed by New Zealand engineering equipment supplier Machineryhouse.

Slade heads to Pukekohe Raceway sitting 15th in the championship standings but has failed to finish inside the top 10 in the last 12 races.

“It’s a track I always look forward to going to as it’s our only international race for the season,” said Slade.

“Although Pukekohe hasn’t always been the nicest to me in the past, I’m feeling confident leading into the weekend and privileged to be racing in Richards’ colours.”

Team owner Brad Jones says the annual trip to New Zealand is always poignant for the team as they remember Richards and do battle for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy.

“It will be a special round for us having this tribute livery, as 2010 was our last season together,” said Jones.

“Jase and Jonesy (Andrew Jones) made it onto the podium in third at the Phillip Island 500.

“Unfortunately, this turned out to be his last-ever podium finish in the Supercars Championship.

“I’m very proud to run this livery on behalf of JR and compete for the JR Memorial Trophy.

“I know Tim will do us proud at Pukekohe. There’s no doubt our whole team are eager to get a good result this weekend.”

The Auckland SuperSprint is held from September 13-15.

NAPA Auto Parts will back the Walkinshaw Andretti United Holden that Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe will race at this year's Bathurst 1000.

The two IndyCar stars will team up for a one-off start at the biggest Supercars race of the year, running a third WAU Commodore as a wildcard entry.
While William Sandbrook and Virgin Australia have already been confirmed as partners, it's now been announced that the major backing will come from NAPA Auto Parts.

The brand already backs Rossi's Andretti IndyCar programme.

“With such an iconic connection to Andretti Autosport and Alexander Rossi, it’s fantastic to have NAPA Auto Parts join us for the Bathurst 1000, especially after being able to witness first hand the passion for the brand in the United States this year," said WAU co-team principal Mathew Nilsson.

“Alexander and NAPA Auto Parts have shared some amazing achievements together in the NTT IndyCar Series, and we’re really excited about the opportunity to add to that in Australia, at Bathurst, alongside James Hinchcliffe.

As an aside WAU have terminated their current sponsorship deal with Mega Fuels, who were last week placed in receivership.

The cars will be running increased signage from Mobil 1 for this weekend in Pukekoe, Mobil having agreed to take the place of Mega temporarily.
