It was, but I can't find any stats for anything other than the two USAC sprintcar races in 1962 at Terre Haute, so you know something I don't.
How do you know the exact date for this accident?

It is mentioned in the photo caption in Dick Wallen's 1960s book. No reference to the race is made in the main text though.

No, it's called Roar From the Sixties. It's similar to the Fabulous Fifties one but even better. It does include a few sprintcar crash pics, but the main focus of the books is the Champcar trail.

The Terre Haute Star and the Terre Haute Tribune existed as seperate newspapers in 1962. Should be possible to find mention of McElreath's huge flip in the online archive now that we have a date to go by.

Jesper can you unlock the graveyard? I think I've identified the Indy wreck in it.

OK.
And thanks a lot for the pic and article. 1962 Hut Hundred, i.e. a midget crash.
- no race results available -
This suggests that some of the other vids may also not actually be sprintcar accidents.
Putting this in crash photos.
Last question, is this photo the same as the one in Wallen's book, and if not, is there a chance of a scan?
