@hollie3sa

Maybe you will be interested and can find something.

West German hillclimber Udo Hoffmann suffered serious accident during 1971 Klingenring-Bergrennen when his Opel Manta A left the road and crashed into tree. Hoffmann died from injuries some days later. As result, hillclimb was cancelled for next year.

No date of accident and death and driver's name found only in Wikipedia article.

https://www.zwischengas.com/de/news/2-B ... -1984.html
https://www.solinger-tageblatt.de/lokal ... 12438.html (wrong year of accident - 1970 instead of 1971).

No MM.org entry.

I have not been able to find further informations.
Hoffmann's last race according to touringcarracing.net was the 1971 Eifelpokalrennen, held on Oct 5th 1971, where he competed in his Opel Manta. http://touringcarracing.net/Races/1971% ... %20km.html
As stated in the Wikipedia article, the Bergpreis zu Solingen/Klingenring-Bergrennen was always held on the second or third weekend in October which at least could lead us to the assumption that Hoffmann indeed died following the competition.

I'll see if I can order a copy of the book. Will stay on it. Promised.

Thanks for information!

There's two more pretty unknown fatalities which happened in German hillclimbs in early 1970s. I can give you all information that I know if you'll be interested and have some time for searching.

Sure, go ahead.
But be aware that it's close to impossible to find an accessible newspaper archive that covers these years. Chances are slim we'll find anything.

Great. First one is Heinz Brosch from Osnabrück who was killed in 1970 during Osnabrücker Bergrennen:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osnabr%C3 ... Bergrennen

https://www.noz.de/lokales/hilter/artik ... 0&0&286341

I don't know if he was car driver or motorcycle rider; I think that former role is correct.

Second one is Hans-Jürgen Rüller. Crashed fatally at hillclimb in Detmold when his F3 March left the road shortly after finish line and collided with tree. Date of accident is obscure, it happened before 25 April 1972.

https://www.e-newspaperarchives.ch/?a=d ... -----0----
https://www.e-newspaperarchives.ch/?a=d ... 72---0----

Ironically, Rüller was posthumously named as winner of hillclimb. It's similar to Frenchman Jean-Claude Fountaine's accident in 1989 who also scored win but crashed shortly after crossing finish line.

Too bad that's almost no accessible German newspaper archives as I think that there're still some rally and hillclimb fatalities which we haven't found yet.

Notes:
A fatal accident that resulted in the death of a spectator marred the 7th edition of the Rali de Viana do Castelo.
On July 7th, at around 3:30 pm, the #27 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, driven by Portuguese duo Ricardo Barbosa/Cátia Longo went out of control during the first special stage São Salvador da Torre / Amonde 1. The car left the road on the outside of a left hand curve and hit an elderly spectator who was watching the race from an authorized area. The man was immediatly attended by the medical crew of the INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergency) but they could do nothing to save his life. The unfortunate spectator died at the scene.
The accident happened in the municipality São Lourenço da Montaria.
Out of respect for the victim, the rally was immediatly suspended (and eventually resumed on Sunday/abandoned)

The unnamed spectator lived in Guimarães. Several sources reported different ages of the victim, ranging from 62 to 71 years.

I think that happened during track day so he wouldn't be eligible to MM.org.

Web may be a little slow, took a while to show.

It's a fatal 2014-accident from Mexico. 5 pics, aftermath. Looks like stock cars, some collided, and I assume the driver of #7 was killed.
En un tercer percance, la unidad con el número 7 quedó completamente destrozada y el conductor Concepción Fernández Hernández de 36 años de edad a quien identificaban como El Concho, del equipo Romofer, perdió la vida.
Name: Concepción Fernández "El Concho" Hernández, 36 years old.

Circuito Alfonso Soler, or Circuito al Valle de Huamantla, not sure. Name of event 44. Carrera de Carcachas?

I think it also says there were several other accidents.

Help out with this, please, I can't read Spanish at all well.

Was involved in pile-up while entering turn and left the track when car #217 landed on roof of his car and then crashed into embankement with spectators. Fernández Hernández, member of Romofer team, was killed, his 16-years old co-driver and spectator Sergio Hernández de Jesús, 50, were injured. Some sources mention 3 other driver fatalities; no confirmation about this wasn't found.

A German Opel trader supported several young drivers. E.g. he allowed them to work in his garage after closing time. One of these drivers was Udo Hoffmann. Apparently Hoffmann was very unhappy with the performance of his car after a practice run (Saturday) in 1971. So he decided to work on his car in a "cloak-and-dagger operation" and change its differential. Not having tested the car, Hoffmann started into his first run with the new differential. In the first left hander, which was normally taken at full speed, Hoffmann who didn't know the track all too well, decided to lift the gas which apparently led to the differential blocking his rear tires of his rear wheel driven Opel Manta. Hoffmann crashed into the armco on the right side of the track. His car veered across the track, up an embankment and into the sole tree that was standing next to the road.

He was extricated from the car conscious and taken to the Solingen hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following wednesday after his health condition suddenly deteriorated. Maybe - but that stands as a question mark - as consequence of internal bleedings.

Thanks for information!

That means that Hoffmann died on October 13 or 20 as Klingenring hillclimb was held on second or third week of October.
