I've got some more informations about the "unknown"-case from the Saarlouis-track, linked below:

I already mentioned the accident in my e-mail from about two weeks ago. After a visit in a local newspaper archive, I can finally tell you more about it. All informations are taken from the Saarbrücker Zeitung, issues of 27 May 1972 and 30 May 1972. The article itself was titled: "PS-Premiere mit bitterem Beigeschmack"
1. The track was mentioned to be 4.810 kilometers long. (issue 27 May 1972)
2. The accident happened on Sunday, 28 May 1972
3. The accident happened on lap 10 of the 12 lap race for the Ford Escort-Cup. The drivers involved were Norbert Kürschner from Viersen, driving the #166 car and Rainer Schmidt (#172) from Hannover.
Kürschner crashed into the abutment of a bridge of the "Bundesstraße B10". His car disintegrated and Schmidt crashed into the wreckage. Kürschner got off better with "only" several broken bones. Schmidt suffered severe head injuries.
The race was not stopped after the accident, parts of the wrecks were still covering the track for the rest of the competiton. That, according to the police, led to a delay in the rescue of the drivers of about "seven to eight minutes".
The following day, Monday 29 May 1972, Schmidt was transferred to the Homburg university hospital - the same hospital in which Walter Neubauer would die after his accident three years later - still in a (critical) life-threatening condition.
I can not confirm nor deny that the accident was indeed fatal.

thanks for your mail. Jimmy Dunne raced a Mini at Mondello Park and the Phoenix Park motor races.
While the story of his passing has clouded with the passing of time this is a brief description of what happened.
It was a Saturday test day. Alan Moore of Carlow raced a Hillman Imp at the same time He had gone off the circuit in testing and made contact with the bank at turn three..
Jimmy apparently stopped to make sure his fellow driver was ok. Having rejoined the circuit, Jimmy then went off at the final corner, hitting the bank and subsequently rolling the car.. The reason was a burst brake pipe and unfortunately he suffered a broken neck in the incident.
He was very popular and known as a real character in motor racing circles at the time.
He was born in 1948 and was from Drimnagh in Dublin.
I hope this helps,
Leo Nulty
