I can tell you that a lot of my mates had been pretty devastated by his loss as they knew him a long time and since really no one believed in a rider mistake, which made it more bitter. I've never got to know him but I've got quite some pics of him from the 2017 Post TT, the 2017 Manx GP and from both the 2018 pre and post TT's. In my time over back at the Manx in 2017 I've seen a lowsider at the exact same place by Dave Moffit and have photos of it up to a point when the angle from the Creg's balcony didn't allow much more.
When you look at a more detailed map or in google maps streetview in 3d there's a backroad to the left called Creg-ny-Baa Backroad, which was part of the Clypse Course back in the day. And Alan obviously had tried to get in there according to the coroner report. With an estimated 70-80 mph it would be hard to get in there, especially with failed brakes, since it would be a lightly above 90° corner and the backroad is usually lined up with cars right left. Not at the beginning though but just a few meters in.
The thing is, I don't know from which side he tried to clip into the Backroad. Naturally, the racing line is on the left hand side so if it happened there, his chances were dim to not really existent. However, a sad loss.
Pre-TT 2018 at Billown, Classic Senior 500cc. The same bike he'd crash on
