Never knew that about Charlie Martin, and it hasn't been lack of awareness of who she is - we've got a very distant mutual friend.

Performance Tech mourns death of crew chief Parzych

The Performance Tech Motorsports Prototype team, along with the IMSA paddock, is mourning the death of Frankie Parzych, who died from a heart attack on Monday. Parzych, Performance Tech’s longstanding crew chief, was 58.

“Frankie was my best friend and my brother,” said team owner Brent O’Neill, who saw Parzych go from customer to team leader. “Performance Tech is a family. Losing Frankie is a loss to everyone who has ever been a part of this family, regardless of job or title. He will be missed by everyone. This team would not have had the success it had without his genuine care and hard work.

“He always had a smile on his face, and he made everyone else smile, too. He was a hard worker; he’d do anything for anybody. We’ve supported a lot of kids and people over the years, every charity event you can think of he was there to support them. He was always there for us, no matter what the situation.

ACO Makes Changes To IMSA Auto Entries For Le Mans

More flexibility given to Trueman and Akin winners

10 August 2018

In addition to the slew of changes to the IMSA WeatherTech Championship for 2019 announced by IMSA, the ACO has announced further changes affecting the American championship’s automatic invitations to the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The winners of the Jim Trueman and Bob Akin trophies awarded to the top Bronze or Silver drivers in the LMP2 and GTD classes respectively at the end of the IMSA season will once again be granted an invitation to the next running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (nb this does not include Bronze or Silver-ranked drivers in DPi).

From now on though, they will be able to do so with a team of their choice even if it is not a participant in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The Jim Trueman and Bob Akin trophies are given to Bronze or Silver drivers (amateurs) with the most points at the end of the season, with total driving time as the deciding factor in case of a tie. The winner of the Jim Trueman trophy will earn an invitation to Le Mans in LMP2 and the winner of the Bob Akin trophy will earn one in LMGTE Am.

This year Ben Keating raced at Le Mans in the GTE Am class due to winning the Bob Akin Award, with a Keating Motorsports Ferrari, partnered with Risi Competizione. Misha Goikhberg meanwhile, won the Trueman Award with JDC Miller in 2017, but did not take up his automatic Le Mans entry for this year’s French classic.

VASC and ex Indycar driver Simona de Silvestro (aka the Swiss Miss) lands 24 hour Daytona all girl ride.

Girls in Motor Racing seems to be fuelling the news recently, so no real surprises here.

Simona de Silvestro will contest next year’s Daytona 24 Hours after being named in an all female line-up for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship opener.

The Nissan Motorsport Supercars driver will team up with Katherine Legge, Jackie Heinricher and Ana Beatriz in a GTD class Acura NSX GT3 prepared by Meyer Shank Racing. It will be the first time an all female driver team has contested the 24hour classic.

I wish her the best of luck and have always felt she has been given a raw deal at Nissan in the V8s. I would have liked her to have got the now not happening #888 seat in place of the retiring Lowndes but that fell over despite Holden's wishes to have a female in one of their cars. (Although contracted to Nissan for 2019 there was a loophole release due to her contract stipulating a Manufacturer backed team which Kelly Racing will not now be following the departure of Nissan as a works team.

Sounds good from a brief read of the article. Seems they have done plenty of preparation and got things in place before going to the mediawith it.... unlike TCR and S5000 which were all hype and have come up with disappointing numbers. This series has a built in progression right through to the LM24.

I have to confess this is the first time I have heard of the plan.
