Jake Kilshaw wrote:Black Falcon Wins 24H Dubai After Dominant Run in Second Half
January 13, 2018

Black Falcon has claimed its fourth victory in the Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai after putting in a dominant performance with its pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3s in the second half of the race.

Abdulaziz Al Faisal drove the No. 2 car to the finish by a margin of six minutes over the Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.

He shared the car with Hubert Haupt, Yelmer Buurman and Gabriele Piana.

The team led almost all of the last 12 hours of the race, with the lead frequently changing between its two cars.

However, the No. 3 Mercedes-AMG of Khaled Al Qubaisi, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Luca Stolz and Manuel Metzger was taken out of contention with four hours to go following contact with the Hofor Racing A6-Am entry while in the lead.

This allowed the sister car to lead over 100 laps relatively unchallenged taking it to the checkered flag.

While the Manthey Porsche finished three laps down in second, Grasser Racing Team bounced back to finish on the bottom step of the podium.

The No. 964 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 started from pole position but a puncture for Mirko Bortolotti on just the ninth lap pushed the car down the field.

Nine different cars led the race at various stages although the main challengers were the pair of Black Falcon entries and Herberth Motorsport Porsche.

SPS Automotive Performance won the A6-Am class while Phoenix Racing took a 1-2 win with the Audi R8 LMS GT4 in the GT4 category.

1:40 h to go. Last night the 24 hour race had been red flagged for some 4 hours due bad weather conditions. Thick fog.

Simpson Motorsport and ROFGO Racing claim PROTO and GT victories Hankook 12H SILVERSTONE

SILVERSTONE (10 March, 2018) – The Simpson Motorsport Ginetta G57 (#4, Steve Tandy / Bob Berridge / Mike Simpson / Charlie Robertson) has claimed victory in the PROTO division at the first-ever Hankook 12H SILVERSTONE after a fighting drive, while the ROFGO Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#31, Roald Goethe / Stuart Hall / Daniel Brown) has secured overall GT honours.

Simpson Motorsport’s weekend got off to a tumultuous start when its main chassis was damaged beyond repair during Thursday’s free practice session. In a brand new car sent overnight from Ginetta Cars’ headquarters in West Yorkshire, the P2 prototype weathered changeable conditions to secure both the P2 class and overall PROTO victory. The G57 completed 278 laps of the 5.891km Silverstone Arena Circuit en-route to victory, Bob Berridge driving the car over the line.

GT and A6-Pro honours meanwhile marked ROFGO Racing’s first class victory in the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook, following a stellar performance in the wet. Despite nursing a broken diffuser after an early collision with PROsport Performance, the ROFGO Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 would leapfrog the Forch Racing Porsche 991 GT3 R (#29, Zeljko Drmic / Patrick Eisemann / Robert Lukas) shortly after three-quarter distance. The British team dedicated their class win to the late Henry Hope-Frost, the revered British motoring journalist who sadly passed away this weekend.

Completing the A6-Pro podium was the GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (#963, Rolf Ineichen / Mark Ineichen / Franck Perera / Phil Keen), which gambled on slick tyres during an early wet weather stint to keep itself in contention. Further back in 4th was the Bohemia Energy racing with Scuderia Praha Ferrari 488 GT3 (#11, Jiri Pisarik / Josef Kral / Matteo Malucelli). Despite leading 37 laps outright during the opening five hours, the Czech-based team would fall fowl of boost-pressure regulations early on Saturday morning, and would be penalised two laps as a result.

A6-Am honours were secured by the Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS (#34, Johannes Dr. Kirchhoff / Elmar Grimm / Ingo Vogler), a welcome result for the German outfit after its sister #33 entry (Ali Çapan / Dimitri Parhofer / Isaac Tutumlu Lopez / Jason Baker) was forced to retire with a terminal steering imbalance and a broken clutch. Close behind in 2nd was the Attempto Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (#66, Steijn Schothorst / Jürgen Krebs / Adrian Amstutz), while reigning 991 class champions PROsport Performance Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#85, Charles Putman / Charles Espenlaub / Joe Foster) completed the A6-Am podium.

Further back in the PROTO division, the Krafft Racing Norma M20 FC meanwhile (#97, Régis Tref / Norbert Sauvain / Karl Pedraza) would survive a hefty on-track shunt – and a couple of errant spins – to claim not only CN1 class victory but also 2nd in the PROTO division rankings.

991 class honours meanwhile would go to the IDEC SPORT RACING entry (#75, David Abramczyk / Stephane Adler / Michael Blanchemain / Romain Vozniak), which would just pip both Porsche Lorient entries, the #65 991-I Cup (Jean-François Demorge / Alain Demorge / Gilles Blasco / Frederic Ancel) leading the sister #64 (Philippe Polette / Frederic Lelievre / Mathieu Pontais / Pascal Gibon) over the line.

A titanic tussle for SPX honours would eventually go to the Speed Lover Porsche 991-I (#78, Phillippe Denes / Dominique Bastien) after a sensational run against series debutants Fox Motorsport (#47, Jamie Stanley / Glenn Sherwood / Ben Clucas). Indeed, the two teams were split by just 90 seconds after five hours of racing, the Audi R8 LMS GT’s pace only dropping as the rain and temperatures continued to fall.

Reigning Champions of the Continents Herberth Motorsport (#911, Daniel Allemann / Ralf Bohn / Robert Renauer / Alfred Renauer) had looked a strong contender for victory as the race ticked past half distance only for a trip into the gravel and a ripped water pump belt costing the team almost 30 minutes of clean-up. The Ram Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#5, Remon Leonard Vos / Tom Onslow-Cole) meanwhile would fail to make the start at all, terminal engine failure halting the British team’s weekend early.

The European Championship continues for both GT and PROTO teams at the next race in Navarra on 20-21-22 April. TCE competition continues meanwhile in the UK as the 2018 Hankook 24H SILVERSTONE races throughout the night, the chequered flag due to be flown at 10.30 GMT on Sunday. Live timing and live streaming of the race in HD quality with commentary by Radiolemans.com will be available on the series’ website. The streaming will also be uploaded on the series’ Youtube channel. Regular updates will be published on Twitter (@24HSeries), Facebook (24H Series) and Instagram (24H Series). Further information can be found at www.24hseries.com.
Red Camel-Jordans.nl takes first 24H SERIES win in two years at Silverstone 24 hours

SILVERSTONE (11 March, 2018) – Red Camel-Jordans.nl (#303, Ivo Breukers / Rik Breukers / Konstantins Calko) has won a frenetic opening round of the 2018 European Championship at Silverstone in the UK, an event heavily affected by changeable weather and track temperatures. Having already competed in the GT and PROTO-exclusive 12-hour race earlier in the weekend, Rik Breukers took the #303 SEAT Leon TCR across the line to complete 411 laps of the 5.891km Silverstone Arena Circuit.

So treacherous were the conditions at the freshly resurfaced Silverstone Circuit, the race-winning Red Camel-Jordans.nl SEAT was one car of many that had to be recovered from the sodden infield gravel traps, but strong pace throughout Saturday afternoon and evening allowed the #303 entry to pull 5m 44s clear of Team Bleekemolen (#100, Sebastiaan Bleekemolen / Melvin de Groot / Rob Smith / Rene Steenmetz) come the chequered flag. The result marks the first TCR class win for Red Camel-Jordans.nl in the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook since 2016, as result. Ironically, the team’s last success would also be achieved at Silverstone.

Having won outright at last year’s Hankook 24H SILVERSTONE, the Team Bleekemolen SEAT Leon TCR would hold off last year’s Hankook 12H Spa-FRANCORCHAMPS winner LMS Racing by Bas Koeten Racing (#129, Antti Buri / Kari-Pekka Laaksonen / Olli Kangas) to finish 2nd overall, while the all-Finnish team’s 3rd place cemented an all-SEAT podium in the TCR class.

Holmgaard Motorsport (#102, Magnus Holmgaard / Roy Edland / Jens Mølgaard / Jonas Holmgaard / René Rasmussen) meanwhile was the first non-SEAT competitor home in 4th, the Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR DSG finishing just ahead of NKPP Racing by Bas Koeten Racing (#175, Gijs Bessem / Harry Hilders / Ronny Jost / Fabian Danz). The latter was one of two Bas Koeten Racing affiliated teams racing the brand new Cupra TCR at Silverstone this weekend, the second – Kawasaki Racing by Bas Koeten Racing (#155, Kristian Jepsen / Jan Sorensen / Anthony Lambert / JM Littman) – completing the race in 8th position overall.

An impressive run for series debutants J W BIRD Motorsport meanwhile (#221, Paul Dehadray / Kieran Griffin / William Paul / Rory Butcher) started with a 38-lap run at the head of the field during the first two hours, and would end with a solid 9th-placed finish.

The top two finishers in A3 would finish line-astern in 6th and 7th places overall, the Hofor Racing powered bei Bonk Motorsport BMW M235i Racing Cup (#131, Martin Kroll / Michael Schrey / Michael Fischer / Bernd Küpper / Gustav Engljaehringer) just pipping the BMW of reigning CUP1 class champions DUWO Racing (#235, Philip Harris / Oliver Bryant / Grahame Bryant / Adam Dawson / William Plant). Further back, the PDM Motorsport BMW (#999, Dimitri Kluyskens / Maxence Vandekerckhove / Pierre De Landsheere / Peter Puype) would seal an all-BMW podium in A3, rounding out the overall Top 10 in the process.

Reigning 24H TCE SERIES champion Synchro Motorsport meanwhile (#76, Alyn James / Daniel Wheeler / Matt Neal) would finish a character-building event for the FK2 Honda Civic Type-R 4th in-class following a complete engine and gearbox change during the night. Few teams defined ‘character building’ more than Excelr8 Motorsport, however. The team’s MINI F56 JCW (#134, Max Bladon / Rob Smith / Ricky Coomber / Szeto Wing Shun Ivan / Clement Tong) would break a track rod after an accident in the opening few laps of the race, and would spend nearly five hours in the pits during a lengthy engine change. The sister Audi RS3 LMS SEQ meanwhile (#106, David Marcussen / Akhil Rabindra / Sandy Mitchell / James Kaye) would suffer intermittent electrical gremlins, the root cause of which was eventually found to be a wastegate failure in the turbocharger. Incredibly, both cars would still make the finish.

Teams competing at ‘the home of British motorsport’ in Northamptonshire had to battle not only each other but also mixed conditions during the oft-quoted “typical English spring.” As well as rain and brutally cold temperatures, the Hankook 24H SILVERSTONE competitors also had to face a thick blanket of fog shortly before 02.00 GMT. The race would be stopped for several hours on safety grounds, racing getting back underway at 6.45 GMT the following morning.

CREVENTIC’s 2018 endurance racing program will continue in just a few weeks time in Spain, as the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook gears up for the Hankook 12H NAVARRA on 20-21-22 April. The second round of the 2018 European Championship for GT and PROTO teams, the TCE division will continue its championship charge at the Hankook 12H IMOLA on 24-25-26 May. Further information can be found at www.24hseries.com.

Watching now the 12 hours of Navarro. (3+9 hour race over two days)
Not that eventful this time, but still a good race. Herberth #911 dropped way back 13 laps, after a clash with the #11 Ferrari.
With 1,5 hours to go a short moment of rain lighted up the race a bit.

12 hours of Navarra

NAVARRA (22 April, 2018) – The Bohemia Energy racing with Scuderia Praha Ferrari 488 GT3 (#11, Jiří Písařík / Josef Kral / Matteo Malucelli) has won the first-ever Hankook 12H NAVARRA. Matteo Malucelli drove over the finish line to complete 387 laps of the 3.933km Circuito de Navarra in northern Spain to take the team’s first series victory since last year’s Hankook 24H PORTIMAO after a largely trouble-free run.

Top 3 Overall
A quick rain shower and contact in the early going had threatened to knock the Ferrari out of contention, but in the end, the Czech-run team was able to cruise to a well-deserved victory on the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook’s first visit to Navarra.

“It was just a great race,” said Malucelli’s teammate Josef Kral. “It looked much easier from the outside than it was behind the steering wheel. But in the end the team did a great job, it’s our first win of the season, and hopefully we can keep up the momentum.”

The Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS (#34, Gustav Edelhoff / Elmar Grimm / Max Edelhoff) finished three laps behind in 2nd place after a stunning battle for A6-Am honours in the closing half-hour. Having finished ‘part one’ of the Hankook 12H NAVARRA in the lead, the German-run Audi lined up on pole position for today’s restart grid, never dropping outside the top 10 en-route to its third A6-Am win in four starts.

“Max [Edelhoff] was able to push more, but we had no fuel,” explained the young German’s teammate Gustav Edelhoff. “So he just had to save as much as he could for the last few laps. We’re not even sure he’ll make it to Parc Fermé!” He did.

After a superb effort, the PROsport Performance Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#85, Charles Putman / Charles Espenlaub / Joe Foster) finished just 1.6 seconds adrift of the Audi to secure 2nd in-class and its best result yet with the team’s new Mercedes-AMG GT3.

“You can’t get much closer than that!” said driver Charles Espenlaub. “We were amazed [Car Collection Motorsport] could make it that far, and I guess they just had a better strategy then we did, but we’re really happy and looking forward to the next race. We got a lot to drink about tonight!” A 20-second penalty post-race did not affect PROsport Performance’s position.

A6-PRO & A6-AM
Running 4th and 5th on the road respectively, the Forch Racing Porsche 991 GT3 R (#29, Zeljko Drmic / Patrick Eisemann / Robert Lukas) secured the A6-Pro runners-up spot just ahead of the Swiss Team Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#15, Roberto Pampanini / Christoph Lenz / Mauro Calamia), which completed the A6-Am podium. The IDEC SPORT RACING Mercedes-AMG GT3 meanwhile (#17, Patrice Lafargue / Paul Lafargue / Dimitri Enjalbert) started yesterday’s race from the front row, recovering from a slow start and a brief excursion through the gravel trap to nevertheless take the final step of the A6-Pro podium.

Despite dominating the first two hours of the race from pole position, the Hofor-Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#1, Michael Kroll / Chantal Kroll / Roland Eggimann / Kenneth Heyer / Christiaan Frankenhout) finished just off the A6-Am podium in 7th after a misplaced gamble on pit strategy dropped the reigning A6 and GT champions down the order after the third hour. Behind them on the road was the second Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS (#33, Ali Çapan / Dirg Parhofer / Isaac Tutumlu Lopez / Peter Schmidt) and the Herberth Motorsport Porsche 991 GT3 R (#911, Daniel Allemann / Ralf Bohn / Robert Renauer). The latter had looked set to compete for outright victory until a clash on-track just 15 minutes into the race dropped the reigning Champions of the Continents to the tail of the field. Ironically, the car it clashed with was the Bohemia Energy racing with Scuderia Praha Ferrari.

991
The EBIMOTORS Porsche 991-I Cup (#73, Lino Curti / Carlo Curti / Marco Frezza) rounded out the overall Top 10, and also collected the 991-class win on its series return. The Huber Motorsport Porsche 991-I Cup (#81, Peter Kieber / Thomas König / Adrian Spescha) and the Porsche Lorient Racing Porsche 991-I Cup (#64, Philippe Polette / Frederic Lelievre / Pascal Gibon) completed the category podium after its sister entry (#65, Jean-François Demorge / Alain Demorge / Gilles Blasco / Frédéric Ancel) was cruelly robbed of the final podium spot with just 15 minutes of running time left when a fuel pump cable disconnected.

SPX
The VDS Racing Adventures MARC Focus V8 (#58, Raphaël van der Straten / José Close) claimed its second category win of the season in Navarra, and was the only SPX entry still running at the chequered flag. Victory had looked set to go to the True-Racing KTM X-BOW (#116, Johannes Stuck / Ferdinand Stuck / Reinhard Kofler / Klaus Angerhofer), but the Austrian team could not remove the left rear wheel during a pit stop, retiring shortly afterwards. Cruelly, the sister entry (#117, TAKIS / Hubert Trunkenpolz / Gerald Kiska / Klaus Angerhofer / Reinhard Kofler) retired on the very same lap after making contact with the tyre barriers. Both KTMs though had done enough to secure 2nd and 3rd respectively on the SPX podium.

GT4
Victory in GT4 had looked a synch for the Endurance Team Romania Ginetta G55 GT4 (#446, Fabrizio Broggi / Sergiu Nicolae) on the team’s series return, but gearbox problems followed by a broken wishbones allowed the QSR Racingschool Mercedes-AMG GT4 (#254, Mario Timmers / Bert Redant / Michiel Verhaeren) to take its maiden GT4 class win.

European Championship action in the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook continues next month at the Hankook 12H IMOLA on 24-25-26 May, which will see GT and TCE entries compete together on-track in Italy. One round later, GT, TCE and PROTO teams and drivers will be in Portimão, Portugal, for the second round of the 2018 Championship of the Continents. Further information on both this year’s calendar can be found at www.24hseries.com.
