Bottom post of the previous page:

The one thing they always bang on about with COTA is the elevation change, and it's the one track where I don't think it works.

The sharp incline to T1 shortens the braking zone even more. What we want is the same amount of change going DOWNHILL, so they're braking for twice as long.

Of course, that would need eighteen miles of sparkling tarmac run-off to pass Whiting/Tilke's safety test, but it may improve overtaking a wee bit. Although it's not been so bad in recent years. Has it? I can't remember.

T2 at Austria is the same, isn't it? Decent passing spot.

Still don't like COTA though, even if it's not rubbish.

I honestly cannot remember any of the track - it is rather unmemorable - and any opinions I have on it should be disregarded forthwith if they haven't yet already!

Can we not jump aboard a Road America bandwagon?

Not safe enough. Need new armco, tire barriers in the kink after the carousel.

On a serious note though. Is it more dangerous than Montreal? Or Baku, with a 90 degree corner at the end of the longest f-ing straight in the world. They have a chicane before the kink to slow the cars down.

Road America's problem is rather:

- it's in the middle of bum fuck nowhere
- Facilities not up to scratch
- Open seating without capacity limitation is probably not what F1 is looking for
- Canada Corner probably needs more run-off area.
- The pits are probably not good enough
- Lack of VIP areas
- They're not going to move it to Wisconsin when they have a shiny new track close to Mexico, and of course the other major cities in the south

And probably a host of other things. Sadly.

I'd love to see 'em at Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta but pissy pant safety measures would bring it to an end way before the dream is dreamt off.

This post angers me. Do you hate Road America so much that you'd wish F1 / FOM / FOCA / Tilke to destroy a phenomenally great track by turning every corner into a technical featureless curve, adding negative camber to the carosel (face it, it would happen) and adding acres of parking lot / run-off, not forgetting the addition of a new chicane at the kink?

There are certainly many reasons why F1 will not go there. John outlines them succintly above.

The bandwagon is for those who live in hopelessly optimistic dream worlds where a shred of possibility remains. Or those who just like living in imagination land.

I dont remember too much of on-track action: there was the torpedo crashing in the penultimate corner though.
btw - Hamilton can become champion for the 4th time here.

I can remember some good track action here. It is one of those track that delivers some "dog-fighting". RIC and VER are doing great here.

Or these folks wander off to motorcycle racing, where in some championships these circuits are still used ;)
