Photobucket bung

Post by The Ost »

Sorry, wasn't sure which topic to post this in, but as CPDP is doing a fine job of rehosting photos from this forum (and elsewhere) I've put it here.

Just an FYI, seems as though Photobucket have cracked it - now you cannot link PB hosted photos on other sites unless you pay a membership fee.

I've been using it for 12-15 years and all my crash photos are hosted there. Will endeavour to download them and host them somewhere else. Hopefully this doesn't trouble too many of you.

Very annoying, if anybody finds a way of accessing photos from their old URLs that doesn't involve spending $40 feel free to share it.
I am very sorry if you find my posts long and boring, I like to type and often go off on a tangent.

Yeah, all my pics and stuff are stored on PB and have been for well over 10 years. Major piss off.

Third party photo hosts are becoming the bane of my life.

Thanks for keeping on top of this Ost.

Have you got them saved offline (or have the physical originals)?

I should have, on various portable HDs, negs and piccies. .
Having said that I can still access them on PB, everything is still there, all my albums etc, it is just they no longer allow freebie members (those that dont pay a $40 pa premium member fee) to post the images on forums /online. I only ever stored things on PB to show them on the forum is the hassle.

I have just discovered a bit of a loophole in the photobucket withdrawal of image posting allowance on forums..... regarding thumbnails.

It seems that free (standard) members can still post images in thumbnail form, just not full size images. I checked by clicking on the thumbnails and they show the full size image as normal.

As an example here is a post I made of this years Canadian GP. The dul size images do not show but all the thumbnails do. They are all hosted on PB. Click the following link and you will see what I mean.

@The Ost, @Everso Biggyballies, @theracer120, @PTRACER and @Jesper Hvid , I heard of a temporary hack from those nasty people lurking in the shadows, adding filename.jpg~original to embedded images seems to allow them to be hotlinked into forum posts presently.

here's an example:

Code: Select all

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af164/EB_Chris/HistoricStuff/eagleweslakecanadiangp967a6la.jpg
as we know, produces:

Image

but modify the url to:

Code: Select all

http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af164/EB_Chris/HistoricStuff/eagleweslakecanadiangp967a6la.jpg~original
and you get this:

I expect the FBI will be after me now, so cyas..... lol
