Bottom post of the previous page:

I`ve seen the time sheets yesterday and today and must say, apart from the Stoner hype, that both Tech3 rookies left the biggest impression on me.

Its all hype.... he was fastest on day 1, but he had the benefit of a days private testing at the same track. Of course he will be faster. On the second day his day 1 times were bettered. Glad to see the back of the whingeing that went with him.

Day 3 Testing Times.

I know these are technically from yesterday, but I just thought I would post them for the record.

(Also to highlight the fact that Stoner was unable to match the times set by the Ducati of Dovizioso or even the Ducati Satellite Aspar Team bike of Bautista. Stoner did manage to beat Lorenzo, who stated he was just making acclimatisation runs on the new bike..)

Vinales has settled in well on the Yamaha works bike, setting the fastest time of the 3 days .

Result: MotoGP pre-season testing Day 3, Sepang

Vinales continues to set the pace......

As Andy pointed out the satellite Yamaha Tech 3 team bike of Jonas Folger continues to impress, 4th fastest today and within 0.5 of Vinales.
Yamaha's Maverick Viñales remained at the top of the timesheets on the final day of MotoGP's second pre-season test at Phillip Island.

Viñales eclipsed his previous benchmark with a 1:28.549, set on the 13th of 101 laps, as morning conditions again proved more favourable.

Viñales has thus topped both pre-season tests with his new team.

Marc Márquez, celebrating his 24th birthday, finished 0.294s adrift of Viñales, with factory Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa 0.190s further back, the latter recovering from a fever, which took hold on Thursday.

Tech 3 Yamaha's Jonas Folger was again the fastest rookie, rising to fourth position, before suffering an off, with LCR's Cal Crutchlow and the Suzuki of Álex Rins close behind.

Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo were separated by just under a tenth on their works Ducatis, in seventh and eighth respectively, Lorenzo breaking into the 1m29s bracket.

Marc VDS rider Jack Miller kept his place inside the top 10, which was completed by the Gresini-run Aprilia of Aleix Espargaró, with Yamaha's Valentino Rossi finishing back in 11th.

KTM's Bradley Smith, after admitting he had been "too conservative", climbed up to 18th, with a high 1m29s, two places and just over a tenth down on team-mate Pol Espargaró.

Aprilia's Sam Lowes and Aspar's Karel Abraham brought up the rear.

Re Folger, he has proved that the Tech3 is up there at the moment. Half a sec to Vinales and only the two factory Hondas between is quite good. But now the games only start. I`d rather keep the ball low for now. Testing is one thing but racing week in, week out a whole different ballgame

Yes indeed, as many of the riders are still pretty much developing their new bikes, trying to fine tune the handling to their liking more than risking destroying their bikes chasing times. Also now is a good time to look at race pace more than qualy pace.

Certainly Lorenzo had stated he is still working on getting the right feel from the bike before going for broke. He says they are making progress, and certainly his times are getting closer to to Dovi's times.

Rossi was one who is saying he is looking at race pace, with late race pace having been a problem last year..... although by his own admission he made a mistake in the direction taken with some changes to set up after the early days of the PI tests..
Rossi, reflecting on the final test day at the Australian Grand Prix venue, said: "We worked a lot on the pace for the second half of the race, because we suffered in that area last year.

"We tried something quite different, but in the end we didn't improve a lot, so we'll have to try something else.

"I think the bike has good aspects, especially the engine, but for sure this test was more difficult for me than the one at Sepang – I'm not very happy and we need to try to do better."
Final pre-season MotoGP testing sessions will be at Losail, venue for the Qatar Grand Prix, on March 10-12.

Marquez crashes in private testing..... dislocates shoulder.

Marc Marquez dislocated his shoulder in a crash during Repsol Honda's private test at the Circuito de Jerez on Saturday. He had it 'relocated' and will not require any surgery. He reckons that he will now rest and will be back to 100% in time for the final pre season tests at Losail from March 10-12.

Hector Barbera is likely to miss the final MotoGP pre-season test after breaking his collarbone during 'training'. He was riding a 600cc bike at Valencia and crashed, breaking his left collar bone. He is set for surgery today in Barcelona.

Should be a quick recovery. The collarbone gets plated and a few days of rest. He should be back for the season opener.

The final three days of pre-season testing action getting underway over in Qatar today.
Will Vinales continue his show of pace?
Rossi, struggling with finding a setting on the new Yamaha that he is comfortable with, is running out of time to allow him to try and close the gap to his teamate and the Honda Spanirds, both over a single lap and on the long runs.
Ducati normally show well at Losail, so we should see Lorenzo looking more competitive.
KTM is expected to be running a new, more rider friendly engine, for Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith.
We should also see Aprilia's new livery on track.

First round is very soon. News from testing is that the new Honda is apparently difficult (heard that at the start of the season before...), Ducati are playing with aero again and tested a stupid new fairing, Lorenzo is struggling to adapt to his new mount, Rossi isn't entirely comfortable on the new Yamaha and KTM are propping up the timesheets.

Dovi was quick at the final test, which is hardly surprising considering he and Ducati always go well at Losail.
