I didn't go green until 2006/7, tracks like Rouen and Monaco were 'Red' for me for a long time.

It actually shows how much I've improved since then, I've just beat my 1:28 at Monaco (which I found so tough) with a 1:26.9 and I've not even done 6 or 7 complete laps yet. I'm well into the 1:29s at Silverstone with a KEYBOARD, so I can't explain why I'm still in the 1:30s with a wheel. Time to put in some serious laps and improve my rank!

I spent an hour tonight trying to beat your Monaco time of 1:25.4. I'm almost within a second but I'm driving my socks off and don't see how I can find the extra time...

I thought that GPL was horrible with keyboard. No keyboard assist unlike GP1, GP2, GP3 and GP4.

You won't be able to compete with wheel players with it, but it's good enough! You do have assists, kind of...you get a basic form of ABS and traction control, so you can't lock the brakes or wheelspin under acceleration. And there's a technique to using those to go fast (for example, if your car is unstable, the ABS won't brake so hard so your braking distance will be really long. If you keep the car very straight the brakes will work much better).

I'm now down to 1:25.75 at Monaco. I know the WR is still a 1:23.x but I'm pushing the limit of just about everything here! I don't suppose you have any of your old replays or remember how you went so quickly now, right?

Nope - it was all off an old computer (or two computers back, by now). Monaco was one of those all or nothing tracks though. You could totally cream the chicane for instance and just gain so much time there. But you'd take 20 attempts at it between landing in the soup. But being a short track, that was alright. Meanwhile, fudging the last corner at the Ring... Urgh. Reset - start again!

As John said elsewhere, we need a full GPL remake, that's just as moddable. I know licensing has been an issue for people like ISI though with rF2. So I don't know if it'll ever officially happen.

I've driven around 60 laps of Monaco today and probably 40 yesterday. I have learned so much about the track and I would have said before it was one of my weakest. Yeah, the tunnel section down to Tabac is all or nothing, but you have to be MIGHTY smooth through the rest of the lap. It seems easy to take the turns too fast. If the tyres are squealing, you need to slow down a tad. Slower is faster. I'm one squinty-eye away from sounding like Jackie Stewart there, but that's why I've shaved 2.4 seconds off my PB in just over a day.

I must admit...I used to love the Ring, now I think I hate it. It took me so, so long to get one complete lap done there at any kind of speed without crashing back in the day. Now I seem to be driving better than ever it's probably worth another shot. Especially knowing there are laps in BRMs that are 15 seconds faster than mine.
