There is also an individual driver from Taiwan by the name of 'Johnson Hung'. :dunno:
So, how high is he in the standings, then... :haha:

On the subject of quirky names for race teams, back in the 1980's (I think I have mentioned this somewhere but unable to find it) as a dig at the advent of major sponsorship spoiling the club racing scene at the time, a few of us ganged up and formed a team (officially with entrants license etc).....

We were baasically taking the piss out of sponsorship so we called the team "Scotch Egg Racing".
We had a story made up to go with 'our sponsor'....

We we went with the story of the development of the sponsors ability to create chickens which with a special feed of sausages and breadcrumbs would lay ready made scotch eggs, with the sausage meat coating dipped in breadcrumbs replacing the traditional eggshell of a normal egg.... the eggs when laid were then tranferred to a temperature controlled environment that would ensure the sausage meat was cooked, the breadcrumbs beautifully golden browned, and the eggs perfectly hard.... a totally free range natural scotch egg! Developments during the season were that to ease distribution costs.... the scotch eggs could be ordered by stores as square eggs to reduce transport costs, and the consumer could then also slice the eggs more uniformally to slice them. We had a logo signwritten on the cars.

We had t-shirts made and the press picked up on it.... as did the commentary teams who always talked of 'the Scotch Eggs boys' when referring to us. Even Autosport started the refer to us as Scotch Egg Racing. The rest of the paddock, even the big well sponsored teams we were taking the piss of all thought it was great.

I was reading an old issue of Autosport from 1982 and found this in Autosport, so thought I would post it for a bit of Xmas humour. We formed quite a friendship with Marcus Pye of A'sport as a result!

I still have one of the T shirts which I will dig out, photograph and post!.

Anyway here is one of the articles from A'Sport. I will try and find others.

In later years after I had moved to Australia and changed from Sports Racing Cars to Historic Tourers I did a similar thing. Many of our events were at Winton Raceway, and a few of us used to stay at a pub called the Farmers Arms, a real traditional Aussie country pub. I turned up one weekend with some Tshirts printed with the name Farmers Arms Racing Team..... the logo was a simple font that depicted going fast and was printed in a large logo front and rear using the abreviation of the team.... FART with full name in small print underneath. I couldn't put the logo on the cars as in those days there was no advertising or signage allowed on the cars, being a Historic class.

Everyone wanted one and at the following meeting I turned up with a quantity I had made, and sold them in the paddock (for $25 each, 30 for large sizes, a fairly rich price 25 years ago  ) with a hand printed sign with a sample shirt next to the car..... I also sold a number to the pub and went home having made enough money to buy a set of tyres and pay for my accomodation at the Farmers Arms for the season! Plain white with the logo in the teal blue colour of the Leyton House Marches in F1!.

Again I still have one somewhere and even wore it to Sandown Historics a year or so ago! I will find or take a photo of the shirt and post it with the Scotch Egg shirt from above.

Edit: Found, Photo taken, and herewith posted:

Just to give this thread a bit of a bump, I was reading a report / review of a British Touring Car Race earlier on and found an amusing comment. It amused me anyway.
....Jack Goff then sprayed fluids all over Turn 1.....

Yeah, he was one of the first ones mentioned when the thread started. Also Dick Seaman (Semen) plus many other very amusing names over the years of motorsport.

Wasn't sure where else to mention this, but I was very surprised to hear that Toranosuke Takagi's first name is NOT pronounced "Tor-anno-soo-kee" like Murray Walker pronounced it, but "Tur-anno-skay".

Then again, I don't think Murray ever got to the bottom of Olivier Panis's name. Even to this day I'm not sure if it's actually "Par-niece" or "Pan-niss".

"Pa-nee" I'd say. And "Tur-anno-skay" sounds too much like T-Rex for my liking; I'd pronounce it "To-ra-no-ske" - just leave out the "u", the same as you leave out the "i" in "Hi-ro-shma" or "Fu-ku-shma".

You don't leave out the 'i' in those at all. Hiro-shee-ma. Fuk-oo-shee-ma.

You do leave out the 'u's though, which is the point I was making about Takagi's first name ;) (Though technically, because family name comes first in Japan, his name is actually Takagi Toranosuke)

This would be a really unfortunate one if his name was Richard Hole, especially considering he's from Cumming, Georgia :haha:
