doubtful, by the time she saw it, she'd hit it.
It wasn't the shoe that was the cause of her issues though, like most it was the corner cutting caught up with them.
Erwin knows all about how cutting corners breaks your car

Very lucky escape for the old man, I don't want to even try and imagine the injuries he'd have got had he hit the end of that wall slightly differently...

Indeed. And there were some lucky people in the pits as well, as some stuff was sent flying. It would probably be a good idea to add a corner to the pit wall to prevent this sort of accident from happening in the future, although it is a very unlikely scenario.
Tough luck for Jimmie. Biff was catching him in the end and it could have been a pretty exciting finish with those two. Sadly Keselowski didn't have the speed to challenge in the end.
edit: for those who missed the race, here's Mark Martin's accident:
I don't feel so sorry for Jimmy. Yes he'd driven a great race and yes he'd got to the front after starting from the back, but this is a 5 time champion who (along with Knaus) pushed the envelope with the rules for many years and yet escaped with minor penalties. It's about time a little bad luck caught up with him.
I think that HMS (incl Stewart/Haas cars) and JGR both are bringing the cars to the max. This year they had many DNF's or cars that had to go to the garage while the race was on.
