What? Am I the only one who think's that this sucks? First they decide to switch to damn F1 tiptronic bullshit and then that Godforsaken standing start.
This stinks big time! Fook off! :insulted:
ChampCar is certainly NOT heading in the right direction. If not they deliver some great racing next year ChampCar is dead to me. First they get rid of ovals then this?! Why not cancel the whole thing and let everyone run in GP2 instead?
I am still of course hoping that there will be some kind of merger but thats is more unlikely now than ever when the split is widened even more now.

Chimpcar is just my word for Champcar, (a poor attempt at humour  )CCWS whatever they call themselves now, and is a dig at some of the monkees that run / drive in it nowadays.

Hi, Paul.

My reference to 50/50 and pros/cons is based on the safety aspect. Standing starts can lead to the most dreadful shunts ala Pironi/Palletti but rollers, too, are no guarantee of an incident-free start. Indy '66 and '73 come to mind.

I would have to say that rollers are safer in that there is the avoidance of having a stalled car centrepunched as noted above. I do look forward, however, to see how it works in Chimpcar.

You're aware of my FF racing background. At the end of the 1977 racing season, there was an official post-season meeting to discuss rules changes for the following year. There, I proposed that we try a standing start for at least one event on a trial basis. We'd done rollers for many a year and I was keen to try a standing start just for the H of it. Well, you'd have thought that I'd asked everyone to carry 5 gallons of nitro aboard! :) I was shouted down and the official in the chair steadfastly refused to discuss the matter any further siting an appalling standing start incident he'd seen some years prior along the same lines as the Pironi thingie. Twenty years later, in the mid 1990's, standing starts were adopted for the FF championship races. Go figure...
