Bottom post of the previous page:

Whoops so that was Newgarden that started it off. I dont recognise the cars me being an Indycar novice.... I thought it was Herta that did the 360. Ill shut up and watch..

Only 15 cars left running. ScottyMac in the top 10 and the ex F1 mob Grosjean 7th and Ericsson 6th.

Now JJ spins on his own going over the crest. A bit ordinary.

I wonder who will have more spins this season - Mazepin in F1 or Johnson in IndyCar

Seems like he got caught out by VeeKay's aero tunnel.

Rosenqvist has started now, lots of laps down but I guess trying for a few points and get some sponsor exposure on TV.

Good race. Well done by Palou. O'Ward will win soon - just a matter of time.

Top 10 finish from Grosjean. Scotty Mac 14th. And JJ, well lets not go there. Has he finished yet? Only ever saw him either spinning or getting lapped by one and all.

and from the other end of the field Alex Palou....

After watching that NBC coverage I have a strong feeling Johnson will be doing the Danica Patrick NASCAR impression. No matter if he finishes 19th and three laps down, he will get screen time right between the podium finishers

Shocking news is that Polish Eurosport will broadcast the IndyCar season live. I discovered that with literally 5 laps remaining in today's race.

Yeah and JJ will no doubt carry the onboard cameras for each race too. JJ will stink this season but eh, let him race. Good exposure for the series.

Grosjean and Scottie Mac was good. Palou was great. O'Ward too but that car sure looked a handful more often than not.

Good work to Palou. Wasn't *that* impressed by him last year - certainly worthy of a second year, but was surprised that CGR took him. Nice reward for their faith in him.

Pagenaud is so hot and cold. Currently cold.

Impressed to see Rosenquist and Herta get back out on track. Decent hits.

Would lol at Johnson's spin. But then again, Newgarden...

What happened to O'Ward? I had to go out and missed something to see him go backwards.

If somebody else had the money for the seat he's taking, they'd be in another car anyway.

So the way I see it he's just adding a car to the grid, and can't complain about that.

He'll get better and more consistent. But he won't do anything of note.

Well, first indy Car race I have watched in a few years. There was a time in the 1980s when I did watch them all and even attended a few. But that was back in the days when it was becoming Formula 1 1/2. Indy car racing has been in decline since the mid-1990s (thank you Tony George).

Anyhow, I really did not find my interest was rejuvenated. The spec cars looked kind of tame. The whole thing just seemed toned down from its peak in the 1980s. The winning driver has less of a resume than Mazepin.

I did like the facility and track. I do have family in Birmingham. Maybe I should pay them a visit next April.

I will probably watch the St. Pete race next week.

Barber sadly does not tend to produce awesome racing. St. Pete usually does.

I could go on a long rant on how IndyCar is fighting its own history, but I'd rather not. I'm happy it seems to be on the up and up instead.

Well, I glad it is surviving. But it is a sad story for a series that dates back from before the Great War. It was a stronger series back in the days of Ralph Depalma, Barney Oldfield, Ralph Mulford and Eddie Rickenbacher.

Sadly Barber isn't the best advertisement for the series. The track is ridiculously pretty. But it was designed for bikes. Not much happens there at the best of times (there have been one or two half decent races, but no more than that). But I believe this year they also repaved it, so the cars were completely hooked up (apart from O'Ward getting a bit sideways at times).

Give it another try at one of the classics... Road America, Portland, Long Beach, Laguna Seca... if you're in any way still interested. I'm not a huge fan of St Pete, but it does provide better racing than Barber, and is a lot more slippery.

With all that said, yes, there is no hiding that the series is a shadow of its former self. FTG.
