Bottom post of the previous page:

I think he got the sulks because he was out-qualified, out started and likes to be out front, rode too hard to get himself to his rightful lead, and overdid his tyres himself whilst others rode more conservatively. Or his set up was too aggressive, because they knew prior to the start the tyres were marginal. MvdM also overused his rubber and suffered similar. It was quite amusing to see Rea being passed by one and all in the last laps. Davies was nearly 6 seconds back from Rea, and the commentators asked whether Davies could pull that gap in in the 5 laps remaining.... Chas had caught him and passed him in less than 3 laps. It was quite cool weather (c20C, so maybe they thought they could run harder. They will be in trouble if it is 30C tomorrow. However, I think the forecast is low 20's.

Forgot to mention that in the ASBK race, Troy Bayliss was leading on the last lap but was passed for the lead by Troy Herfoss. Bayliss finished 2nd in the restarted race having dropped many places at the start, with current champ Josh Waters 3rd. It was a rain affected race, red flagged after 6 laps and restarted in the order of running after 4 laps.. Not good for Bayliss who as mentioned started badly and was still down the field by lap 4. Some great dicing saw him battle his way back through to lead with 2 laps to go.. Great effort.

Incidentally, a good day for the Bayliss family..... his son Oli won Race 1 in Australian Supersport 300 before finishing runner-up to Tom Bramich in Race 2.

Yeah a last minute call due to the excessive tyre wear the day before was deemed dangerous. All bikes had to stop between lap 10-12 (22 lap race length as planned)
“Unfortunately we had some issues regarding the tyre life,” admitted WorldSBK Sporting Director Gregorio Lavilla.

“Following a meeting with the teams to discuss the possible options, we decided the best way was to do a flag to flag, which luckily our rules comply with.

“We normally use it for climatic purposes, but now we are using it for other purposes, unless its rains.”
They also have a reverse grid scenario now, Fores started this afternoon’s Race 2 in first position, race 1 winner Marco Melandri will be ninth on the grid. Have not quite worked out the mechanics of that TBH.

Meanwhile, in the race, Melandri does a Jonathan Rea and takes a double win.... outdragging Rea to the line on the final lap to win by a gnat's cock..... Chaz Davies did the usual. Crashed out of the lead.
Mind you Rea almost did not get through the first lap when leading. Laverty had a huge lunge from third that nearly took him out at the hairpin. Laverty managed to take the lead with the move, then crashed out a couple of laps later. He remounted and finished 15th.

So Melandri has the remarkable record of having won at PI in all categories of Moto GP and now also in WSBK.
Melandri’s 100 percent points haul has him 17 points ahead of second placed Sykes as the championship now moves to Thailand for Round 2 on March 23-25.

In the supporting ASBK races Troy Bayliss came 5th and 6th in today's races, so with his 2nd yesterday finished his comeback weekend in 4th overall. Bayliss did, however, set the fastest lap on Lap 2. A pretty good performance after 9 years away from competition.

Son Oli had a better weekend in the Supersports 300 races. Oli won Race 3, (as he did race 1 yesterday) and with it the round, despite starting the final lap in fourth position. Seems like he might be a chip off the old block.

Some quite good racing there earlier, albeit not really hammer & tongs.
I`m most amazed with the SP2 Fireblade of Leon Camier though. Close to deliver that bikes first podium, chaz Davies beat him to it in the closing stages. Also amazing to see how far off Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri were.
So laying in late tomorrow morn and watching WSS and WSB. :D

Thanks for the reminder which I read yesterday. I missed race 1 live but saw it replayed and a lead in to Superpole 2. The race is on here in the late evening after the GP

Eugene Laverty apparently is a very lucky man.

Laverty fell down on lap 6 and was then run over by Jordi Torres who had no chance of avoiding him.
An article on speedweek.com quotes an eye witness who said that the accident was "similar to Marco Simoncelli's accident" (apart from the impact with the helmet). Laverty had no feeling in his legs after the accident. Luckily, he "only" broke his ischium, a bone in his pelvis.

Certainly is by all accounts.... the TV coverage missed the incident picking up only Laverty lying in the track in clear distress. He will be sidelined for 'several weeks' according to a team spokesman. Wishing Eugene a complete and speedy recovery. It could have been so much worse.

Other than that in race 2 at last a win for Ducati, their first at this venue. Good to see VdM up there in second as well.

One thing I found alarming was the Ducatis seemed to have a habit of tank slapping violently along the faster parts of the straights. They looked to be on the verge of a highside every lap. No other bikes had this issue. Weird and must have been uncomfotable to be onboard. Onboard footage was scary enough.

2 rounds in, 3 wins for Ducati and 1 win for Kawasaki. Does that mean Kawasaki's dominance has been overcome, or are there other circumstances that account for the swing in performance?

Well, as I mentioned this is a venue Ducati have never won at previously, and the first Buriram WSK race not won by a Kawasaki in many years.

That mainly happened to Melandri. The others seemingly coped quite well with it.

I doubt it. We had two circuits now where straight forward power plays a big role. Aragon still may suit the Ducatis but from then we get to the more nimble circuits where midcorner speed has a much bigger relevance and I don't see the Ducatis
having picked up in this regard.
