2017 North West 200

#1

Post by Andy »

The North West 200 along the north coast of Northern Ireland has started with practice session on the 8.97 mile (14.4 km) long triangle circuit today. The NW200 usually acts as a final warm up towards the Isle of Man TT, starting later this month. The lap record is at 123.207 mph (198.282 Km/h) set by Michael Dunlop on the BMW Superbike last year. The speed trap record is held by Martin Jessop with some stunning 208 mph (335 km/h) in the speed trap shortly before University corner. This said, the triangle circuit is slipstream capital. Often 4 to 5 riders go alongside down towards University with one or two from behind catapulting ahead. Great fun to watch!

During yesterdays Supersport practice, English rider Chris Dixon had a nasty off at Black Hill. The session was red flagged immediatly.
Chris Dixon suffered leg fractures but otherwise, thankfully, non life threatening injuries.

Ditto...That was scary.

That could have easily been so much worse. Speedy and full recovery to Chris Dixon.

John McGuinness not so lucky. He fell in Superbike practice and broke his leg. :(

Pretty interesting races last night. I hoped for Michael Rutter keeping the pressure on Alistair Seeley in the Stockers race though. I'm really glad for Martin Jessopp, now that he finally broke his duck at the NW200

Presumably the accident and injury to John McGuinness, given the closeness timewise, will impact on his participation at the TT, unless it is a very simple break. I understand he underwent surgery to have a plate fixed to his tibula/fibula. I know these guys are superhuman and anything is possible, so all the best top John for a speedy recovery. :dunno:

My undoubtedly wild guess is, that he'll turn up at the TT and gives it a try at least. Which side did he crack again ?
