RIP. It's been a while since someone was killed at Brands.
Other motorbike deaths at Brands in the last couple of years....

2018 Kyle O'Donovan BMCRC Powerbikes

2017 Fran Fletcher Classic 350cc Over 55s Championship

In 2013 was Karl-Heinz Kalbfell in the BMCRC Lansdowne Classic Series.

Several others earlier this millenium. In fact I seem to recall one in BSB or supports in recent years, but cant think who it was.

Thats the one I was thinking of. Thanks @Double Fart
IIRC he was coming onto the pit straight, dropped it and was struck by another bike. Very sad.

Alfridza Munandar was an Indonesian racing in the Asia Talent Cup, where he was a title contender, having recorded two wins and four podium finishes this season.. The race was immediately stopped after the first-lap turn 10 incident which also involved Japanese rider Shinji Ogu. Munandar was treated immediately trackside but died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital in the Malaysian capital on Saturday after being flown from the Sepang track. Ogu was not seriously injured.

Munandar was twenty years old

Race 2 will take place tomorrow as scheduled, a decision made after consultation with all riders who were unanimous it should take place and be dedicated to Munandar. There will be a minutes silence pre race.

RIP

@Andy @ChiliFan

Knowing that you are our experts on motorcycle racing here. Is there a realistic way to at least minimize the potential injuries from these kinds of accidents where one rider falls in the pack and gets run over by a competitor?

Hi @hollie3sa,
I don't think it is possible due to the nature of it.
If you fall off a bike you are your own passenger since there aren't safety cells or seatbelts. But even if, it would mean that the rider can't seperate from the bike and therefore is even more injury prone. And not just that because those who are likely to hit such a crashed machine rider combination will face an even bigger chance to take away serious injuries as well.

Taken from a post I wrote in the 'On this day... thread in Nostalgia thread about oldest surviving GP drivers shows further pics of KK on bikes and in cars: (some of the info @Andy mentioned already)
Image

Ken Kavanagh (Norton) 1951 Senior Ulster Grand Prix

In 1952, Kavanagh became the first Australian to win a motorcycle Grand Prix race when he won the 350cc Ulster Grand Prix. In 1956, he won the Junior TT at the Isle of Man TT races. Kavanagh entered two Formula One Grands Prix in 1958 with his own Maserati 250F, firstly in Monaco where he failed to qualify, and lastly in the Belgian Grand Prix where he missed out on the race having blown his engine in practice, after having qualified 20th of 28 entrants. He also did some non championship events, with a best result 6th at the Syracuse GP
