There's a neat replay of it even and you can see how Lorenzos kneeslider is scrubbing through, drawing a red line onto the tarmac.
Maybe Ducati had it in mind but this one move surely wasn't deliberate.

The rain helped Marquez big time today. I doubt he could have been as far up in the dry. At least there's a slim chance left that Honda messes it up in Valencia.

If not, the deliberate actions of Zarco, Vinales, Iannone and Rossi at Phillip Island helped Honda and Marquez into boots. Unbeatable in tactical dumbness what these four showed there.
Re lorenzo: ducati showed a "swtich map 8" sign to lorenzo. The spainsh said he didn t look it maintaining that the pass was legitimate, and he simply did not made a risky move to attack dovi. Dovi said that he has no idea what is the map 8 but said he asked no help to the team or lorenzo, and tere was no meeting to discuss about it prior to the race. The impression is that ducati would have done anything to help dovi won the race.
Regarding philip island i had your same impression that some were driving without real strategy....except for marquez, but i m not sure if any of them really had the speed to beat him

Michael van der Mark will again replace Jonas Folger at Tech 3 Yamaha for this weekend's MotoGP season finale in Valencia. After finishing 16th in the wet, just out of the points, in his MotoGP debut at Sepang, and with Folger still sidelined with illness, van der Mark will keep his place in Valencia. Wish him the best of luck.
It is a big ask to come in as a rookie and have to run for the first time, untested, in the wet against a team mate like Zarco, who finished on the podium at Sepang..

I love how MotoGP is actually trying to build this race up as an "all or nothing" showdown.

They're trying - that's...cute.

So what are the maths? If Dovi wins the race, where does Marquez need to finish to lose the title?

Marquez has a 21 point lead over Dovi so Dovi must win and Marquez score less than 5 points.... Dovi has more race wins (7 if he wins, against Marquez 6) so a tie will give Dovi the title.

In effect Marquez has to finish 11th (5 points) to take the title even if Dovi wins. A Dovi win and Marquez finishing 12th (4 points) or worse will give Dovi the title, tied on points

2017 form guide:
In 17 races so far this year, Márquez has finished 14 of them (he crashed in Argentina and France, and had an engine failure in Great Britain), and 11 of those finishes have been podiums. Sixth in Italy's been his worst result.

Dovizioso's been more dependable (he's finished 16 times in 17 races, equal with Johann Zarco for the most finishes this year), and the one DNF wasn't even his fault, taken out mid-race by Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro in Argentina in round two. Dovizioso's finished on the podium eight times but picked a bad time for his worst result of the year last month at Phillip Island, when he finished just 13th as Márquez won the race to see an 11-point championship deficit increase to a more daunting 33 points.

From the past five races, Márquez has taken 108 points and three wins (San Marino, Aragon and Australia) and Dovizioso 78 points and two wins (Japan and Malaysia, both in wet conditions). The last rider other than these two to win a race this year was Valentino Rossi, way back in round eight at Assen in June.

And even if MM93 DNFs, Dovi will still have to win the race.

At a circuit that's not inherently Ducati-friendly either. Granted Iannone came home third last year, but it was a distant third.

Well if that's justification for Ducati being favourite then I argue that Suzuki should dominate the weekend because once, more than 15 years ago Sete Gibernau won onboard their 500cc machine.

You mean Aussie Troy Bayliss, who won the Superbike title 3 times, was promoted from WSBK to their MotoGP team in 2003, fired in 2004, returned to Superbikes with the team and won a (second) title in 2006 and as a reward was given a one off MotoGP run at Valencia in 2006 which he won, 1.3 secs ahead of Caprossi on the other Ducati.
