Somehow the final round of WSBK came and went unmentioned. The racing was under lights at Losail
Some great racing and another double win for Chas Davies, leaving him the winningest (by 2 races) rider for the season (having 'doubled' the last few weekends and making him the first World Superbike rider to secure six consecutive race wins since Troy Bayliss in 2006)
Jonathan Rea had tied up the Championship after race 1, and in race 2, making Rea the first rider since Carl Fogarty to successfully defend his World Superbike crown.
With Sykes trying to take 2nd in the championship from a fast closing Davies, Sykes needed to finish at least 2nd in race 2 should Davies take the win, to take the title runner up spot behind his teamate Rea. After a shortened restarted second race in which Rea had a bad start, looked set to do that. However Rea fought back with a string lap records over the final third and passed Sykes trying to win the race for himself.... a result which would still have seen Sykes finish runner up also as long as Sykes finished 3rd behind Davies.
Entering the last lap Rea was on the back wheel of Davies but with no real way or pace left to pass the impressive Ducati dropped back, and took one for the team, allowing Sykes past to take 2nd in the race and title chase as they crossed the line in a formation finish with Sykes in the all important 2nd place. Hope that isnt too confusing.
