To kick off the 2016 motorcycles thread I found a new book, the biography of Continental Circus rider Jim Curry which was released in December 2015. Now Jim wasn't the most successful but he's surely a great source for stories about racing in the 60s along the greats of Mike Hailwood, Ago, Derek Minter, Mike Duff ....

The book is available at http://www.jimcurrypublications.com/

I've found a fascinating interview with former sidecar passenger Dane (Rowe) Kurth today even though it is over 3 years old. The interview with the lady can be found at http://rocinantemecanico.blogspot.co.uk ... -dane.html

Never a great way to start a New Year,, so it is sad to report a major crash in a Historic Road Race in which Lobethal man Jon Gutte, 55, died after a crash at McNamara Park, near Mount Gambier, on Saturday.

As well as the fatality the accident involved several other riders, some left with serious injuries, in which the riders involved are listed as 'serious through to critical and stable.'
A South Australian motorcycle rider has been killed in a crash during an historic road racing event at McNamara Park near Mount Gambier.

The 55-year-old rider from Lobethal died following a crash involving seven bikes during a South Australian Historic Road Racing Championship race on Saturday.

The rider was transported to Mount Gambier hospital where he later died.

Four competitors involved in the crash also received treatment for injuries.

Motorcycling Australia released a statement today which confirms a full investigation into the incident in conjunction with Motorcycling South Australia is underway.

“Motorcycling Australia (MA) together with Motorcycling South Australia (MSA) would like to advise of a critical incident that occurred on Saturday 2 January (2016) at the 2015 South Australian Historic Road Racing Championships,” read a statement from Motorcycling Australia.

“The incident occurred at McNamara Park Road Racing Circuit in Mount Gambier, South Australia, in which seven bikes were involved in a racing incident.
RIP Jon Gutte

On a more happy note, today former 50cc world champion Jan de Vries celebrates his 72nd anniversary.

Guy Martin won't do the TT this year.
Plenty of folk have been asking what I’m up to this year.
I fancy a change of scenery. I've been racing the TT for 11 years. All I’ve really done since I was 18, except the trucks, is race motorbikes and my brain needs something else. Every year’s the same: testing, racing, then start again. It brought it home to me when I was lying in hospital after the Ulster Grand Prix crash. I’ve been on about the Tour Divide, the toughest pushbike race in the world, for three years and I thought I’ll blink and next thing I’ll be 45, so I’m going to do it this year. I like breaking myself mentally and the Tour Divide will be tough, but it’s same time at TT, so that’s forced me to make a choice.
I'm not done with motorbikes. I’m attempting the Wall of Death record in the spring and having a go at the land speed record in the summer and if I do race on the roads it will be with TAS.
After the Tour Divide I might never want to see a pushbike again - or never want to go road racing again, I don’t know. But I do know Bruce Anstey and John McGuinness are still racing the TT, and they’ve got a few years on me, so maybe I’ll come back next year. Or maybe I’ll find something else interesting to do. I’ve got more interests than just motorbikes and I just think let's bloody have ‘em.
Thanks very much as ever for the support.
Guy.
Would be a damn shame if he'd never get that TT win. Hope he'll be back.

I`m split there. I`d like to see him winning that one TT but not on all accounts. If on that day someone is better, so be it.

Picture of Jamie Hamilton inches before his crash at Cronk-Y-Voddy straight during the TT last year. Almost exactly the point where he lost control.Oh yeah and picture was upped by Jamie himself.

One hard to catch, because sold out, book. First edition 2002, stupid money but fully worth it.
Never paid that much for a book.
The book itself is written and released in both German & English language. You mostly have both language columns on one page!
