1946 (Not) Franco Cortese's Crash at Modena

Pretty good example of rational deduction, this. Unfortunately, it's inconclusive.

Lot. of 6 photos found on the essential eBay, click to enlarge.


On the back of the one with Nuvolari, his name was written. Top middle one said "Cortese".

One of them was available in larger version:


The background looks a lot like this:


The accident happened right on the doorstep of the Modena cathedral. If that's what it is.

It's entirely reasonable that the 6 images are from same event.

This is the only one that fits a sportscar race with Nuvolari driving a #32 car.

But there were 5 non-c'ship sportscar races that day, at Modena.

No record of a retirement due to accident during either. Cortese won one of them.

It strands right there.
You only have to read the lines of scribbly black and everything shines.
