I remember seeing her on tv during F1s tenure at Indianapolis - good times.

Dumas: VW Initially Targeted Overall Pikes Peak Record in 2019

Volkswagen had planned two-year Pikes Peak program and breaking overall record in 2019…

Volkswagen’s all-electric Pikes Peak project was initially a two-year program, with the aim of breaking the overall record in 2019, according to Romain Dumas.

The Frenchman shattered the all-time record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June, driving Volkswagen’s purpose-built I.D. R Pikes Peak prototype.

The German automaker stated from the outset that it only aimed to break the record for electric vehicles this year, but Dumas has revealed that it had planned to return in 2019 to go one better.

Breaking the overall record on the program’s first attempt at Pikes Peak this year resulted in it being curtailed a year early, with Dumas setting a time of 7:57.148 to break Sebastien Loeb’s previous record, set in a petrol-powered car, by over 15 seconds.

“It was not the plan to win overall this year, it was the plan to win next year,” Dumas told e-racing365. “It cut the program a little bit earlier [than planned].”

The four-time Pikes Peak winner has pledged to return next year, but likely in a smaller program, and not with Volkswagen.

“It’s already clear that Volkswagen will not go back to Pikes Peak,” he said.

“It doesn’t mean that I will not go back, and for sure I will go back with some customer again and with my own team as I have in the past.”

Dumas Looking at New Opportunities with Volkswagen

Despite the Pikes Peak program coming to an end, Dumas says he’s still working with Volkswagen to find potential future projects.

“I hope we will do some new stuff, we have some ideas to do new stuff with Volkswagen,” he confirmed. “Hopefully it goes through. It will be decided soon.

“I tried the rallycross car last month, the WRX, but now WRX is not in a good shape as you see with the Peugeot story.

“For me, it was the first time, and it was why not do something for the future that I could do.”

Thanks! The race was a thrill ride but I was running too rich (my qualifying lap was a 16.395). I was pretty up-close and personal with the rollover at the start but in the end I enjoyed every bit of it.
Still dirt tracking?

Long since hung up the helmet, man...when you're having more fun in the stands than being behind the wheel, it's time for a change.

Former junior open-wheel racer Richard Philippe has died at 28.

The Formula BMW USA, Champ Car Atlantic, and Indy Lights driver was killed last week in the Dominican Republic in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of four others. According to reports, the helicopter was traveling from a hotel in Rio San Juan to the town of Casa de Campo, where Philippe owned a home, when authorities lost contact with it 24 miles short of its destination.

The Frenchman, whose older brother Nelson competed in Champ Car and the IndyCar Series, saw his career shadow that of Australia’s James Davison, who spoke fondly of his late friend.

Mick Schumacher confirmed with Ferrari academy.

I was going to stick this in F1, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.... he is about to start a season in F2, but has been appointed as a member of the Ferrari junior squad. As part of his deal, Mick Schumacher is to drive in two tests with Ferrari this season. It has been rumoured for a while, denied initially by Ferrari but now confirmed in Autosport.

It will be interesting to see how he goes with Prema, who have won only 3 F2 races in two years of F2 that Leclerc didnt win (he won 7 in 2017,) but they did not manage to win the team championship. Last year they came 4th, the three wins all coming from de Vries. Will Schumacher become the 3rd Prema winner to ever win an F2 race? Time will tell, but I keep thinking back to Mick last year in the first half of the season before something suddenly clicked on the car and it became a winner. I dont believe Mick has that much talent if I am honest. I just dont see him doing in F2 what he managed in the last half of 2018 in F3. :dunno: He is no Leclerc put it that way. Maybe I am being harsh.... I am happy to be proved wrong.
