‘Yoshi’ Mori Arrested For Fraud

Is this the beginning of the end for long-time defaulter Mori?

Sometime racer and repeat commercial thorn in teams sides Yoshiharu (Yoshi) Mori has finally, it seems, come to the attention of the forces of law and order in his homeland Japan.

Mori, whose now predictable Modus Operandi features repeated promises to pay agreed fees to teams, but then seldom producing anything close to the level contracted, either within a reasonable period of time, or indeed at all, has left a trail of unpaid bills across international racing including teams in Blancpain GT, FIA WEC, Asian Le Mans Series and elsewhere.

Amongst the teams known to suffered the tactics above (and others) from Mori are: Attempto Racing, Eurasia Motorsport, Jackie Chan DC Racing and Larbre Competition – in some cases causing real hardship for the teams, and in the case of Jackie Chan DC Racing at Shanghai last year in the Asian Le Mans Series leading to the exclusion of one of their cars fromrace results after the team refused to allow Mori to drive following repeated failures to produce agreed payments.

Several of Mori’s approaches to teams over past years focused on assurances that Mori would bring the internationally known ‘Hello Kitty’ brand to the effort though it is not at all clear what, if any, link he had to the brand.

But now Mori, 52 has, it seems, been arrested, together with a second man, 79 year old Yamanashi Kazunari, for offences dating back to 2014, with allegations of fraud pertaining to the sale of a seat in a Lamborghini GT car that was not, it seems, theres to sell!

The initial charges are reported to relate to a 6 million yen (c. £45,000 GBP) deposit received from a potential driver that never reached a team, the customer left with nothing.

DSC predicts that the investigating authorities in Japan will have no shortage of offers eager to add to the evidence base in Mr Mori’s case!

I wonder what the record is for the most barrel rolls in a racing crash is...I heard Latvala flipped 17 times in his Portugal crash, but in the amateur video it looks like he flipped maybe no more than 10 times.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

The Bathurst 6 Hour provisional entry list has been released and it's massive. 68 cars including a couple TBAs, with another 4 places available. If more then 64 start then the previous record for a Bathurst enduro would be broken.

Plus entries dont close for another couple of weeks so may be more to come yet. Maybe 72.
The 6 hour has got better and better recently, and is still as close as you can get to a showroom showdown, although still a bit 'improved'. A good variety of cars from different manufacturers across different classes (14 manufacturers with 30 different model cars!). A lot of the usual pacesetters entered, Sherrins and Beric Lynton etc. plus some ring ins like Anton De Pasquale and John Bowe.
I'll be watching.

Channel 7 are covering it.... hopefully live!

Class action victory for citizens vs. Circuit Mont-Tremblant
The members of the class action suit against Circuit Mont-Tremblant win a victory in Quebec’s Superior Court. Here’s an English version of the report.

“We won! Not on every aspect, but on the essential ones, and in a thorough and balanced decision that will be very hard to contest on appeal,” reports law firm Trudel Johnston & Lespérance (TJL).

TJL continues its report as follows.

– The racetrack is a nuisance as concerns the “special activities” and “test days” (i.e. activities to which no noise limit applies pursuant to the municipal by-law) that generate noise louder than 55 decibels (with a 3 decibel tolerance) – in other words, all of these activities.

According to the criteria set by Justice Mainville, approximately 300 residences are exposed to these noise levels – assuming two persons on average per residence, this represents potentially 600 residents who will be compensated.

– The amount of compensation varies depending on the moment at which a resident arrived, to take into account their prior knowledge of the noise issue:

i) $750 / person / year if the person arrived before August 1964;
ii) $675 / person / year if the person arrived after August 1964 but before July 2001;

iii) $300 / person / year if the person arrived between July 2001 and December 2006; and iv) $150 / person/ year if the person arrived after December 2006 – with interest in all cases.

According to our preliminary calculations, the value of the award could reach $3 million, without counting interest.

What hurts the racetrack most is obviously the finding that “special activities” and “test days” constitute a nuisance. We will thus probably be able to obtain an injunction, i.e. Court-ordered measures to end the nuisances related to these activities, if they continue.

We may also potentially be able to use the 55-decibel threshold to request an injunction regarding the “ordinary” (i.e. cars with mufflers) activities that create noise surpassing this threshold.

We feel the decision is balanced and will hold up on the appeal that will surely come from the racetrack. After a more detailed analysis of the decision we will be happy to answer your questions individually.

Here is a hyperlink that will allow you to access the decision rendered on March 24 by Justice Mainville of Quebec’s superior court: Tremblant Jugement.

At 111 pages, it is lengthy decision, but here’s a summary.

So people that arrived after the circuit was in operation (c1965 AFAIK) get a payout on something that was there and noisy when they chose to move / buy a house near the track. What a load of bollocks. You buy a house and do the due diligence of the area, and if you can live with factories, racetracks, airports or whatever nearby you buy it. If you dont like it, simple, dont buy it. Dont buy near something you know exists that upsets you and then complain about it 50 years later and expect compensation.... Pricks.

As an aside doesnt Lawrence Stroll own the circuit?

Yeah, that's total horseshit.

Fair enough if you move in, and all of a sudden, one day a big, bad nuisance starts up.

Monza all over again.

I hope that is appealed. If you move next to a race track, or an airport, or a nightclub, then complain about the noise then you are a fucking idiot.

This is very random, but the 100 year old man who raised over £25 million for the NHS by walking up and down his garden, is a big F1 fan...

What a fabulous interview and what a dude Captain Tom Moore is. He even made the news here. Apparently he has now been promoted to a Colonel when he hit the $60 million raised mark.

One of the first professional series will restart tomorrow night, World of Outlaws at Knoxville, sadly it’s on PPV.
