Leahey/Lynton just made their final compulsory stop, they now lead by 25 seconds over the #1 car.

Damn Geoff Russell (who's running 5th) hasn't driven a major event at Bathurst since 1986.

Actually it's not a shame because they've been proceeded to continue all the way around the track spewing oil everywhere.

I thought they would have been told to park it up. You could see a trail of oil all round the track. I suppose if your name is Andrew Miedecke.....

Sherrins make their final stop, they came out just over two minutes behind. Without a SC or a failure for the #23 car it'll be a hard time for them to win, they do have essentially 2 laps over the next car though.

It's not close at the front anymore but it is very close for third, the Russell #21 BMW is only a few seconds ahead of the #64 Commodore.

The Leahey/Lynton car has had some pretty special pace over the weekend though, so I think even if there was an SC and the Sherrin car got breaks with traffic, getting passed would be another issue. Especially with Leahey in the car. Their fastest lap is a second quicker than the Sherrin car. Unless the no tyres call by Leahey / Lynton comes back to bite them. Mind you I think the Sherrin car also skipped a tyre stop to stay on the lead lap.

Sherrins decided to pit again for tires just to ensure they get to the end. The old tires were many hours old so. There's only 18 minutes left and that puts them a lap down, so that ends the race for the win totally short of the M3 having a failure.

Now the Sherrin car has made an extra stop for a front tyre only. The one they took off looked pretty shot. They rejoin a lap down.

And there goes the #64 Commodore to third up Mountain straight, using up all that V8 grunt. We'll see if he can continue to hold off the BMW over the top.

They have broken the distance record for the event, (125 laps) with 10 minutes to go. Only 3 Safety Cars helped of course.

Deserved it, especially after last years disappointment.
Interestingly, the V8 Commodore that finished 3rd overall is the first time a V8 has been on the outright podium at this race.
