SHould be a good race given it is tight for the TRS title and this is the last TRS race of the year.

Armstrong couldn't get going!

Also I don't know what the fuck race control (and the marshals) were thinking, they restarted the race with the car that caused the SC parked across the inside curb at turn 1 and virtually on the apex of the corner.

Why even bother throwing an SC when you're not going to properly remove the car that caused it? And it's not like it was originally beached on the kerb anyway, they moved it from the sandtrap and it got it stuck themselves.

Top Fuel champ Brittany Force taken to hospital after crash

Image

Reigning Top Fuel champion Brittany Force has been taken to a hospital after her dragster crashed during the 58th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at Pomona's Auto Club Raceway.

Her Monster Energy dragster smoked the tires, shot sideways over the center line in front of Terry Haddock and pancaked the left wall before careening across the track again and making another impact along the right wall.

The NHRA reports Force was conscious, alert and speaking with medical staff and went to the hospital for evaluation.

Force had qualified second heading into final eliminations.

Flavo Briatore sentenced to Jail for Tax evasion.

He was sentenced to 4 years making mailbags a couple of years ago for issuing fake invoices allegedly for the charter of his luxury yacht, claiming back VAT for said 'fantasy' charters. This has apparently been reduced by appeal to 18 months. His yacht has been confiscated.

He spent much of his earlier years evading fraud allegations and jail sentences imposed, by living as a fugitive in I think the Virgin Islands, before 'making a deal' with Italian authorities. Will he go to jail for his latest offences? Time will tell.
An Italian court has imposed an 18 month prison sentence on former Renault boss Flavio Briatore.

Two years ago, the flamboyant Italian was convicted over a case surrounding tax evasion relating to his luxury yacht Force Blue.

Now, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that with the prosecution pushing for a 4 year jail sentence, an appeals court in Genoa has instead imposed a one year and 6 month punishment for tax crimes.

Briatore and four others had been found guilty of using the yacht only recreationally, therefore dodging EUR 3.6 million in value-added tax by issuing fake invoices.

Force Blue was also confiscated.
Briatore's lawyer said: "We take note of the judge's decision and will appeal to the supreme court. We are convinced of Mr Briatore's innocence."
Yeah yeah. Because they are paid to say so? :dunno: :whistling:

Fisichella to drive at the 2018 Australian GP!

OK, maybe not in the GP itself but the 2005 Australian GP winner (and pole position holder) is racing in the supports in a couple of weeks time.
Giancarlo Fisichella will make a special appearance in the Australian GT Championship opener at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

The three-time grand prix winner will pilot a Kaspersky-backed Ferrari 488 GT3 run by Melbourne squad Maranello Motorsport at the Albert Park event.

Fisichella is set to partner car owner and Australian GT regular Peter Edwards in the 2017 Bathurst 12 Hour winning Ferrari in four 25-minute races which will kick-off the new season.

Following an F1 career including 229 starts for Minardi, Jordan, Benetton, Sauber, Renault, Force India and Ferrari, Fisichella turned his hand to GT racing as a factory Ferrari driver since 2010.

He has since scored two GTE Pro class victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2012 and 2014.

“I have participated in many races in different countries around the world, but racing in Australia is always something special for me,” said Fisichella.

“I have great memories of Albert Park, above all the pole position and victory in F1 in 2005.

“I am also really proud to be the brand ambassador of Kaspersky Lab in Australia, which is giving me the great opportunity to race the Ferrari 488 GT3 of Maranello Motorsport.”

Maranello Motorsport boss Mark Coffey is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the factory Ferrari star.

“It is fantastic to have Giancarlo back in town for the Australian GT races in Melbourne,” said Coffey.

“Giancarlo’s world class pedigree, along with his extensive experience of both the Ferrari 488 GT3 race car and the Albert Park circuit will make for a very formidable proposition.

“We are proud and very appreciative to have Kaspersky Lab on board, and look forward to flying the now iconic colour scheme in Melbourne.”

Very tasty indeed.

Oh and we have got another big name joining the Aus GT grid for the AGP and beyond:
Three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Marcel Fässler will contest the opening round of the Australian GT Championship at Albert Park.

The former Audi LMP1 star will partner reigning champion Geoff Emery in the #1 Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia R8.

It is hoped the Swiss driver will be able to contest all three endurance rounds of the Australian GT championship at The Bend, Phillip Island and Hampton Downs, in addition to the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix from March 22-25.

Fässler was part of a distinguished trio of Benoit Treluyer and Andre Lotterer which took out the Le Mans 24 Hours for Audi in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
