As expected, O'Ward has been released from RBR.
Has he? I know Vips has replaced him for SF finale, but I haven’t read that he’s been dropped from the Red Bull junior program.
I may have jumped the gun a little there as there's no confirmation anywhere on Pato being dropped from RBR all together. That said, not sure where this leaves in the junior program ladder.
Of course it raises questions about his ongoing involvement in the program. On the flip side, the Mexican GP is on the same weekend as the Super Formula finale. So...
Yeah, but does he have the Super License points to do a FP1 run?
To be granted a "Free Practice Only" superlicense the requirements are either competing in 6 F2 races or 25 superlicense points over the previous three seasons

2018 - Indy Lights Champion = 15 points
2017 - Pro Mazda 2nd = 7 points
2016 - Formula 4 3rd = 7 points

Also, if for some reason the FIA decided not to count some of those points Red Bull could request special consideration for O'Ward as he has competed in multiple Indycar, F2 and Super Formula races through 2019.

Didn't the Indy Lights championship have too few entries to award super license points?

Yep, any eligible series has to have 12 starters each weekend so Indy Lights 2018 counts for nothing.

12-15 starters gets you 75% of the allocated points, from 16 starters up it's full points.

It seems like FIA broke their own rules to give O'Ward 15 SL points for the 2018 IL title. However the system is very much flawed already.

So a couple of sources are suggesting that Red Bull and O’Ward are indeed over, and that he’s heading to SPAM

Racer's quoting him as having left Red Bull. Marko's nickname for him was Potato. Smooth.

As for SPAM, well, him and Askew would at least be an interesting pairing.

But then you'll need to fit Hinch in there somewhere as well. Hinch and Pato would be a more sensible pairing than ditching Hinch and going with Askew and Potato.

Well, Canon apparently signed on as a major sponsor for RLL so that might still happen!

I don't care how many tweets I see, I don't consider Hinch confirmed at SPAM until he's actually sitting in the car.

Good to hear!

If it wasn't for the deep Honda connection (can I say deep in relation to Hinch, or will that upset Arrow?), I'd say he stay. But I really hope he goes elsewhere.

And I really want McLaren to have a proper go at Indycar (their own team...), so I hope they get good drivers so they don't just piss off after a year or two of crap results.

Some interesting bits from Robin Miller's mailbag on Racer.com (edited out boring stuff):

Q: My first question concerns the scenario of a crash resulting in a car ending up upside-down. I imagine the escape space for the driver is quite restrictive and hard, which makes me even more scared in the event of fire, so has this been reviewed and found acceptable for the driver to escape quickly enough? Or is any emergency device/item in place as part of the aeroscreen assembly that would grant an easier escape route for the driver

RM: The AMR IndyCar Safety Team has been involved with the aeroscreen project since it was in the conceptual stages. They have had input as well as practiced extractions on the prototype and now on the actual car. It should not slow down driver extraction and there also is a quick process in place to remove the aeroscreen piece if needed for an extraction.

Re. the comments @Ian-S made regarding the screen and potential fires. Not much info if the car is belly up and on fire but that would be a bad situation regardless.

I think they'll just cut the thing off in need be, but of course if something like that Texas fire you mentioned breaks out, gawd help whoever is in the car. It's just another case of fixing a problem that either doesn't exist or is sooooo rare, hens teeth are easier to find,

Could it be that the way its mounted is with some sort of retractable clips or something (if so, I don't think it would be as strong as they say it is?)?

But I don't think they could just cut it off though in any sort of 'reasonable' time. I mean, I guess you could use jaws of life on a 'traditional' halo... But this has got the screen as well, so there wouldn't be anything to cut around...

There has to be some way though for them to talk like that.

I believe there are holes in the screen to facilitate things like that.

There are some kind of 'holes' behind the screens as well :whistling:
