I don't know the first thing about these injuries, but I'm sort of guessing that if the spinal cord was so badly damaged that there would be zero chance of walking again, or even run (or ride a car), there wouldn't be too much use in doing this.

So I'm guessing that there is a chance that he'll make a good/full recovery, or at least to a stage where can live a fairly normal life.

But I'm just guessing blindly here.

Remember that his leg and lower body muscles, tendons, nerves and so on need stimulating and moving after being through major trauma followed by next to non-existent movement for a lengthy period of time.

Yes, Palmer played it fair - he knew he'd blitz the championship and decided to take up a position in the commentary booth instead of potentially destroying a good racing series by winning nigh-on every race.
