Montreal mayor cancels Formula E race
As Montreal was scheduled to be the season finale the organisers of FE have now decided to not replace Montreal with another event but instead to reduce the schedule from 14 to 12 races (Montreal was to be a double header weekend) and instead the preceding round in New York becomes the double header season finale.
New York will host the final round of this year's Formula E championship after series organisers opted not to replace the Montreal event.

The respective cities both joined the schedule in 2016/17 with each event hosting two races, and Montreal installed as the season finale.

The approach was set to be repeated in 2017/18, but Montreal's newly-elected mayor scrapped the event, amid criticism from locals, speculation over misused finances, and low ticket sales.

A proposal to shift the event from the centre of the city to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was a no-go, with the island venue set to start construction work immediately after the Canadian Grand Prix.

As a result, Formula E will not replace the two-race round, with New York now installed as the season finale in mid-July, and the calendar reduced from 14 to 12 races.

It is the second major in-season calendar change after officials brought back the Punta del Este event to replace the postponed Sao Paulo round.

They tried to con Birmingham (or someone did) into holding it, fortunately Birmingham City Council told them to take a hike...

Not surprised if the figure to run it is something in the order of 25-30 million or so. I think that is the figure that Canada quoted as the cost that was the reason for them bailing out.

March 6 2018 will mark the unveiling of the new Formula E car to go forwards with, as the next generation car is revealed in front of a global audience for the first time ever at the Geneva motor show.

Some teaser pics have been released: They dont give much away other than showing the halo and they are literally a big tease.

This first one shows the halo in place.

Interesting that they've gone for wheel covers and have shied away from a traditional rear wing. It has more of an Indycar look than an F1 look, which is a good thing.

I hadn't noticed the lack of rear wing until you pointed it out, not surprised though, the cars don't really go fast enough to produce lots of downforce and downforce = drag which = more power needed, so as an energy efficient con, sorry - show, rip those wings off, they're not needed.

I must have looked at that Formula E car a fair few times today, yet it wasn't until I read a Tweet from Will Buxton that I noticed it has a halo.

The lack of rear wing seems to be made up by the oversized diffusor. Apart from the nose not much to like on that car, at least it'll have enough electrons to cover a race distance.

A bit of an odd angle but.....

This second image shows the as mentioned very pronounced rear diffuser set up.

Well, it's different. I don't mind it, but don't love it. At least FE kind of feels like it should be different (unlike A1GP was).

Hey, don't besmirch the name of Formula E by dragging (pun intended) that talentless hack into the conversation. At the least the arse of the Dallara chassis actually has a purpose.
