Bottom post of the previous page:

The Foxtel coverage I've seen has been very good. Highlights always suck.

The direction the series went when they lured Nissan and Volvo was very exciting (and so, so, so long overdue). But that's kind of falling into a heap. And like with F1, if you exist behind a pay wall, it'll hurt you in the long run.

Out of interest, Foxtel (or their holding company) is one of the (five) potential investors who have put their hand up as interested in buying the Archer shareholding.

Practice 1 & 2 have been held at Winton for this weekends VASC roundd. P1 was ridiculously wet with cars spearing off everywhere, none more spectacularly than our friend Rullo, who arrived at T1 a conservative 50 kph too fast, so fast he had to by pass the back of the old pit complex and finally came to a halt close enough to rejoin at T4! Many others as I said went off but most managed to get back on track after T2 in front of the old pitlane. P2 was not raining but still very damp with all on wets until a few tried slicks in the last minutes of the session when a dry line had started to appear, albeit with wet patches.

P 1 times were irrelevant and nearly 15 seconds off the fastest P2 time, but tomorrow the weather is still uncertain although Sunday looks clear. The times were all set in the final minutes and dependant on being on a clear bit of track and not making any errors.

Here are highlights of the first session, showing Rullo's off and the only actual accident in the session for Nick Percat and Scott Pye.

http://www.supercars.com/videos/champio ... 79984648=1

There's also this fairly wild onboard from Caruso. The conditions really were terrible, it was some of the worst I've seen live (there was standing water on the insides of some corners by the end of the session.) I was expecting someone to have a serious accident, and I'm amazed no-one did considering that at about 3/4 of the field must have gone off, some people on several occasions.

Apparently Rullo has been given a five minute penalty for practice 3 for shortcutting the circuit in his off. That's kind of stupid if you ask me, it was probably a lot safer and definitely easier to rejoin the circuit at turn 4 then turning around in the wet grass and rejoining the track after turn 2.

Race 1 had some very hard racing in places.
McLaughlin won from Whincup and his teammate. Reynolds got a 4th with some good strategy. Davison had some luck finally with a 5th. Lowndes took 6th after working his way through the pack and Tander was 7th from SVG who had a bad pit stop. Mostert qualified 2nd and was looking good until something broke in the driveline. There was a couple of fairly average incidents. The first happened when Slade was leaving the pits and he locked up at turn 1 and sent himself and Rick Kelly spearing off (he got a drive-through for that). The second was Courtney & Percat who bounced off each other a couple of times until Courtney got sent off into the sand on the final lap.

He needs all the practice and tracktime he can get. Seems a silly penalty to me.

Re race 1 there was some great racing, some great drives and great variety of strategies. I thought it was one of the best races in a long time.

Just as race 2 started to become a bit of a non event, we got the weekend's first Safety Car and the race was transformed. Brilliant last 10 or so laps.

Here is some big news that emerged today:
The next generation Holden Commodore Supercar will be powered by the existing V8 engine when it hits the track next season, rather than the twin-turbo V6.

While it was expected to debut with the turbo engine, and become the first model to take advantage of the new Gen2 regulations, Holden Motorsport today confirmed that the Triple Eight-built next-gen Commodore will begin life with V8 power.

Triple Eight will look to run the US-built V6 engine at various events as a ‘wildcard’ next season, before a full roll-out in 2019.

The decision could well mean a larger fleet of new Commodores on the grid next season. As revealed by Motorsport.com, the introduction of the new car and new engine was likely to mean a maximum of three new-model Commodores in 2018, with Triple Eight only ensuring it would have its own cars ready in time for Adelaide next year.

But being able to carry over the existing engine package should help Holden customer teams shift to the new platform quicker, while what Holden describes as a ‘favourable lease’ programme will then assist the introduction of the V6 engine for the 2019 season.

Supercars has confirmed that major stake holder Archer Capital has formally begun the process of selling Australia’s premier race series.
The procedure started earlier this year with the Sydney-based private equity firm, which owns a 65 percent stake, enlisting investment bank UBS to take the lead on exploring prospective buyers...... <snip>

April Fool.... apparently the category is now off the market, as in not for sale.... it seems that the interest in the category at the asking price failed to attract any serious interest...
Archer Capital has reportedly abandoned current plans to sell its majority stake of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
An article in The Australian Financial Review claims the private equity firm has shelved plans to offload its controlling stake, informing teams of its decision ahead of this weekend’s CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown.
Archer Capital purchased a 65 percent share of the sport in 2011 while the remaining 35 percent is owned by the Supercars teams.
Last month Supercars confirmed that the sport’s owners had enlisted investment bank UBS to lead the sale process.
Media reports highlighted five corporations, including News Corp Australia, Supercars former owners Sports Entertainment Limited and TEG, owners of Ticketek, had registered interest in purchasing the stake.
It is understood indicative offers were tabled but the report suggests that these were below the $100 million reported asking price.
In response to the article, Supercars CEO James Warburton said, “It is business as usual which has been the sport’s position throughout the sale process.”
In the meantime Practice is underway at Hidden Valley, Darwin, ahead of this weekends VASC CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown event.
