Scott Mclaughlin robbed of double STCC podium finish

Scott started the weekend well, qualifying on the front row and finishing race 1 behind Robert Dahlgren in a Volvo 1-2 finish.

Race 2 was a reverse grid race, and Scott had made his way up to 3rd when when he was collected by Reuben Kressner’s out-of-control Saab. The damage inflicted ended Scotts race, as the pic and following video shows:
”I was hit from behind in the second race, nothing I could do about it,” he explained.
“While that was disappointing, I am pleased with my pace in qualifying and to claim a podium finish.
“My goal was to break into the top three and that is what I have done.”
McLaughlin’s efforts also impressed Head of Motorsport at Polestar, Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin.
“It was a shame that McLaughlin was eliminated in the second race, but he has delivered way beyond expectations and we are more than pleased with his effort,” he said.

Scott is now on his way back down under in time for this weekend's Barbagello Super Sprint V8SC round in Perth.

STCC states intentions to adapt TCR for either 2017 or 2018; Volvo immediately throws their toys out the of pram:

http://www.touringcartimes.com/2016/05/ ... adopt-tcr/
“If you want to keep a manufacturer in the championship, or if we really want to stay, you would have to do some sort of balance of performance or postpone the introduction of TCR”
:wow:

Postpone TCR, so Volvo can win another couple of titles without competition? Or just wait until there are no other teams left?
“A lot of national championships make the same mistake,” continued Murdzevski. “They say if only we get new cars everything will be fine again and we’ll get big numbers of competitors, but you can’t run a car cheaper anywhere in Europe than you can run this (Solution F) regulation, and if teams have difficulty in funding that, and then add car investment all top, (they think) all these importers are going to come running and supporting; well they’re not running now and they didn’t run when we were using S2000 previously either.”
:wow:

Because TTA/Solution F went over so well?

Solution F is simply not interesting to get involved into because:

1. It is not their own product. It is a silhouette formula.
2. There is no second-hand market for it because,
3. STCC is the only championship that uses them

Also, how many cars are there not in TCR Germany, TCR Asia, TCR world series compared to STCC?

Well, forgive me if I'm wrong, but the old Swedish Touring Car Championship alone had a higher car count than STCC does now. Sorry Volvo, it isn't working.

And with 7 or 8 different manufacturers as well. Volvo is rather silly.

A manufacturer who is putting their own interests ahead of the series they participate in. That sounds awfully familiar...

I very much unintentionally made a very low tast pun yesterday when I ranted on Swedish on Twitter: "Solution F/TTA" looks like your making a pun that the cars are "Solution C-word".

lol woops

I watched it.... He was running 3rd, having started 4th. James Thomson had led the grid away but got punted up the back on the first lap by Hugo Valente, and sent spinning off the track. Valente was pinged for causing an avoidable collision and given a drive through.... so TC inherited the lead when Hugo peeled off into pitlane to serve the penalty.and held it until the end after some devious defending against Lopez. Lopez ran into the back of Tom on the penultimate lap trying to force his way past, but then backed off for a safer position in the title chase.

Waiting now for race 2, but indeed a great result for Happy Tom.

The STCC has gone downhill since the early 00's anyway. I really do miss the super tourer-formulae of the 1990's.

The super touring era is hard to emulate wherever you are on earth, but STCC can do better than this. Must do.
