Latest post of the previous page:

Certain Jim Dunne died on 4 July 1970 and was buried at Saint Maelruain Cemetery in Tallaght, Ireland: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/106381485/jim-dunne. Maybe it's him, but I cannot confirm it.

The Jimmy Dunne that I am aware of was a saloon racer and killed during a practice day in Mondello park .

Thanks, that's very interesting.
I'm wondering where the La Stampa journalist read about it... must be an English newspaper of some sort.

I've just searched, and found a "Jimmy Dunne Memorial Race" at Mondello Park, 1970:

The informations in the issue of La Stampa and Autosprint are pretty much the same.
I can only imagine that the list was simply copied from another source without scrutinizing it.

And Keane just confirmed that the findagrave-link is the correct Jim Dunne. Which gives us the exact date of his death.

Great, then.
I think all this "Mysteries" thread has been solved.

Well done, guys.

I had one question: so, if Dunne died on 4 July, it doesn't mean that he died not in Mondello Park, but in Kirkistown? Site which was found by Motorsportrace shows that there was race in Kirkistown at that date. Yes, it's still possible that there was race in Mondello at the same date, but it's better to check out information about race track.

Hi Lucas,
thanks for your mail. Jimmy Dunne raced a Mini at Mondello Park and the Phoenix Park motor races.
While the story of his passing has clouded with the passing of time this is a brief description of what happened.
It was a Saturday test day. Alan Moore of Carlow raced a Hillman Imp at the same time He had gone off the circuit in testing and made contact with the bank at turn three..
Jimmy apparently stopped to make sure his fellow driver was ok. Having rejoined the circuit, Jimmy then went off at the final corner, hitting the bank and subsequently rolling the car.. The reason was a burst brake pipe and unfortunately he suffered a broken neck in the incident.

He was very popular and known as a real character in motor racing circles at the time.
He was born in 1948 and was from Drimnagh in Dublin.

I hope this helps,

Leo Nulty

Almost forget about it, but maybe we should send information about Dunne to MM.org? And about another Dunne (who was killed at rally in 1992) too?

I contacted Nanni (from mm.org) a couple of weeks ago for another case. But he hasn't responded since and the informations have not yet been updated.

Maybe he's too busy to handle the massive amout of informations that have been sent to him. We shouldn't clutter him with work he simply can't manage all by himself.
If there was only a way to "take over" motorsportmemorial.

Well, why not create our OWN motorsportmemorial. possibly with blackjack and escorts? I mean, we have the possibilities to do it. We have to CPDB, that can be used as an upgrade to a motorsportmemorial like site. Maybe i'm too ambitious, but i think it can be done with some effort by all of us.

I don't know which language they use but I have some skills and experience in programming, so considering that's my fault that MM.org slowly updates, maybe I can ask for joining their team. One problem that from September I will busy with my graduation thesis and new job so I'm afraid that my free time will be limited.

We've had that very discussion before here:

I support the idea. The problem is we don't have the necessary manpower to handle two major projects with the CPdB and a copy of motorsportmemorial.org

I have Excel/HTM database of drivers died while racing which I made with combination of info from MM.org and my own researches (about 500 drivers who still have no entry in Motorsport Memorial), so I can help with some information and sources (now I always save links after I lost my single source about Steve Froggatt).

I must warn that base is not completed (4259 drivers added, at least 1339 to add), I don't add to my database spectators, officials, mechanics etc (if they're not current or former racing drivers), I omitted unnamed drivers (they're in special list to further research) and I won't publish HTM database in Web (because some things that I did is not regarded legally in some countries).

Oh, and portion of Excel database is on my native language, but I can easily translate it back to English.

That sounds very, very interesting. Are you sure you don't want to publish your files, @Sedre? ;-)

We shouldn't put too much work into stuff that ultimately results in "lost effort". Do it right from the beginning. And if we decide to handle the project ourselves, then we should start now. And stop kicking it down the road.
But I'm afraid that I can't. Simply cause I have no experience in programming databases.

-----------------------------------------------------------

For your information: The current available online version of motorsportmemorial.org does not necessarily show the entire database.

http://motorsportmemorial.org/query.php ... bmit=Apply should show all motorcycle-fatalities from Cadwell Park. But it doesn't

I.e. here's the entries from riders Ben Gautrey and Ashley Martin that aren't available via the "usual" way

Yes, I know about hidden entries and some other problems in MM.org because one of my first sendings was about Charlie Dyer whose entry was actually hidden by former member of MM staff.

I found one thing why Gautrey and Martin's pages doesn't show up in deaths by track: they have 3.508-kilometer Long Motorcycle Circuit road course (2004-present) as track variant, while other have either unknown or 3.502-kilometer Long Circuit road course (1962-present). I think something with programming, like they (staff, I mean) forgot to write 3.508-km into one of track variants, so it doesn't show properly in Cadwell Park search.

Some time ago i've asked Jesper (which seems to be offline since july, or at least i didn't seen anything posted by him) if i could start something like MM but only with fatal crashes videos, which i've been collecting and searching for the last two years. He said that he had to talk with PTRacer, but i've reiceved no confirmation or any definitive response until now. So if someone want to start something like that, i can give some help (at least providing/finding the clips and give some information). Also @Sedre what you have is some serious shit, i don't think i can do something like that.
Also @hollie3sa to me the CPDB it's one of the best things of this forum, but to me it has some serious problems. Sometimes it's just too messy with some things, give any entry his number it's good, but they shouldn't be ordered by that criteria. I mean, DarcyF1.com works in a similar way, but it's way less confusing than the CPDB.
