Well, it's all in there, innit. Precisely the point. Diogenes was an elitist, too. Depending on how you interpret that concept.
He became notorious for his philosophical stunts such as carrying a lamp in the daytime, claiming to be looking for an honest man. He criticized and embarrassed Plato, disputed his interpretation of Socrates and sabotaged his lectures, sometimes distracting attendees by bringing food and eating during the discussions. Diogenes was also noted for having publicly mocked Alexander the Great.
That's a geezer, if ever there was one.

Frankly, IMO, this is the last new epic rock song I've ever heard. Didn't really examine the 'Stones controv. too closely, but the song still stands. Few interesting attempts appeared after that, even Robbie goddamn Williams, but they didn't quite reach that cosmic level. And I wasn't even into this sort of thing, at all. Oasis were wankers, and Suede were fags, Blur kinda Kinksishly OK. Sod the Arctic Arsehats and all that lot. Franz Wotsisface. Coldplay, hahaha.... HAHAHAHA...! So, I do possess the ability of being objective. If I want shit stuffed in my ears, I'll shove my head down the toilet. And that's not going to happen, now, is it.

This was from before the days of viagra...

And the best display of drumming by Jon Bonham, IMO.

See what I did there, possibly? See what went missing, along the way? Bon Jovi was right. He was half-way there...

Nothing and I mean nothing those bitches ever put out could ever be epic or even vaguely of note.

Beautiful and epic song.

Strangely, this band was dragged into the '80s suicide metal censuro-evagebollocks controversy - for another song than this. I've never come across a more well-presented or fair case for self-annihilation than this.

So, they went to court for this Spooky Tooth cover, another track from same album, which has the exact opposite connotations:

And it's even become a meme, now.

What can you do...

Wasn't it because of being played backwards, into opposite direction, also ?
Still one of the most laughable court cases of all time.

Yeah, subliminal messages from playing albums backwards.

2:57 "I shout my demons there when I'm with you!" :haha:

Clearly Satanist.

And how's:

1:18 "The Son* never helped at all, by nothing! " (one of my mishearings)

* = Jesus.

OMFG! :haha: :haha: :haha:

Jesper Hvid wrote:Here's something I've neglected doing, even though the idea always appealed greatly to me. On the 1978-1981 Saga albums there are songs which seem to be intended as a series of connected ideas, forming a complete work, if not quite a symphonic poem, and they are in parenthesis called "Chapter #1-8", and they don't appear chronologically, on the albums. Always thought Saga were a formidable prog. rock band, tho I never dug the effeminate vocals all that much. Someone did the work for me:

Images (Chapter 1) 1979 0:00
Don't Be Late (Chapter 2) 1980 6:36
It's Time (Chapter 3) 1979 12:38
Will It Be You? (Chapter 4) 1978 16:46
No Regrets (Chapter V) 1981 24:00
Tired World (Chapter 6) 1978 28:46
Too Much To Lose (Chapter 7) 1980 35:52
No Stranger (Chapter VIII) 1981 40:40
I'll have to listen to this a lot, before passing any sort of judgment. The songs are great individually, but the question is whether they also work as a whole, theme or no.
These songs aren't really connected in any way I can work out, but they show what the band are capable of, somewhere in between melodic prog. and AOR, and the musicianship is first rate. Ch.s 6-8 are the best parts, IMO.
unimpressive i'd say. there are some epic parts that take the thing higher but for the rest they sound like a bad genesis rip vs vangelis rip off. indeed they play very good but their disco sound doesn't fit their music
The cycle was finished on the album trilogy Full Circle/House of Cards/Marathon, and the series had a purpose, namely as a sort of musical sci-fi fantasy piece to do with Albert Einstein.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon_(Saga_album)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saga_(band)#The_Chapters

16 songs in all. The rest, in chronological order (and not in order of appearance), below:

09
10
11
12
13
14
15
16

Must admit, I don't find it quite works, as a whole. But then again, I was never a big Saga fan. Without the information it would in fact never in a million years have occurred to me, that there was a connection between these 16 songs. Voivod have done something similar in a different genre, but there is a better cohesion to their conceptual idea. And needless to say, any 45 seconds of e.g. Tarkus by ELP works better that any of it... But there it is.

Yes, it's that godawful time of year, again, now. And another superb lyric, easter eggs contained within the stately mock stanzas, themselves. Innuendo, double-entendre, clever rhymes, and all sorts of word-trickery, throughout. Great piece of satire, and the aspiring bourgeoisie still don't get it. Worthy of once-mentioned Chaucer, actually. Which is why this is an immortal song.
Garden party held today
Invites call the debs to play
Social climbers polish ladders
Wayward sons again have fathers
Hello, dad, hello, dad!
Edgy eggs and queueing cumbers
Rudely wakened from their slumbers
Time has come again for slaughter
On the lawns by still Cam waters
T'is a slaughter, it's a slaughter

Champagne corks are firing at the sun - again
Swooping swallows chased by violins - again
Strafed by Strauss they sulk in crumbling eaves again
Oh God, oh God, not again!

Aperitifs consumed en masse
Display their owners on the grass
Couples loiter in the cloisters
Social leeches quoting Chaucer

Doctor's son, a parson's daughter
Where, why not, and should; they oughta
Please don't lie upon the grass
Unless accompanied by a fellow
May I be so bold as to perhaps suggest Othello

Punting on the Cam is jolly fun, they say
Beagling on the downs, oh please do come, they say
Rugger is the tops, a game for men, they say
oh God, they say!

I'm punting, I'm beagling, I'm wining, reclining, I'm rucking, I'm fucking
So welcome, it's a party

Angie chalks another blue
Mother smiles, she did it too
Chitters chat and gossips lash
Posers pose, pressmen flash

Smiles polluted with false charm, locking on to Royal arms
Society columns now ensured, returns to mingle with the crowds
Oh, what a crowd...

Punting on the Cam, oh please do come, they say
Beagling on the downs, oh please so come, they say
Garden party held today, they say
Oh please do come, oh please do come, they say.

Trickled into the hopeless working-class, with its ludicrous barbecue obsession. Fat sweaty sods, comparing lawnmowers. Oh, God, not again.
If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

I had only ever heard the Iron Maiden cover of that before.
