Instrumental Songs

Post by theracer120 » 8 years ago

I know that a few instrumentals have been posted before in other threads, but as far as I can tell, there hasn't been an actual thread for it.

To start off with:

Little Walter with Juke. One of the most famous harmonica pieces ever. It changed the Chicago blues sound forever when it was released, some 60 years ago (1952.) It was also the biggest hit the genre ever had, being #1 on the black charts for 8 weeks.

Duane Eddy doing Rebel Rouser. This was the biggest hit for a guy who has been called the greatest guitar instrumentalist in rock & roll. All of his songs were instrumentals.

Booker T & MG's with Green Onions. This is a real groovy instrumental, and one of the best of all instrumentals, as well as one of the most well known, if not the most well known.

The Rolling Stones with Now I've Got A Witness. This is off their first album.

The Stones again with 2120 South Michigan Avenue. An instrumental tribute to the studios of the record company which had the labels where Little Walter's most successful records were released, and the same applies for Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. That company being, of course, Chess.

Jimi Hendrix with Star Spangled Banner. Undoubtedly one of the greatest, if not the greatest guitar players, doing one of the most famous performances of its era.

Santana doing Soul Sacrifice. This is also from Woodstock, and from another very good guitar player. The drum solo here is insane, as well.

The Stranglers doing Waltzin' Black. Unfortunately quite a few instrumentals tend to be a bit fucked up, and this is no exception.

Now go ahead and post anything else you can think of, or any glaring exceptions that I've missed.

Taken out of context ("excerpt"), but I always thought this was rather splendid, and the highlight of Hergest Ridge which is the Mike Oldfield album I've always enjoyed the most. What a f**kink genius.

If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

Fantastic piece, too. A bit of Kashmirey, Arabian Nightsiness to it.

Real NWOBHM (left), and the droning on an on, mid-80s nonsense of Iron Maiden (right).
