Absolutely great late 70s early 80s fusion style by larry carlton. It reminds me of those late 70s american telefilfm such as magnum pi. After all carlton played on many of those sessions. the solo is really unbelievable but theres a story underneath. Larry recorded On the backing track at half speed, and doubled the speed of the recording to get the solo at normal speed.

Well, it's very good, pompy stuff. Would be interesting to know if that was composed before The Show Must Go On, by Queen, and Final Countdown by Europe, because it leans itself so heavily against those two, in my ears.

Glenn Branca passed away. Never a big fan, but it's clear from the successes of later genres in '80s rock, that his influence is inescapable. I used to listen to some of the British bands like New Order, Ride and Fields of the Nephilim. They are called "noise rock" ("støjrock") in Denmark, not sure if there is really a term for it. Bowie apparently admired Branca's work, and it's definitely a special form of guitar-based prog, with classical influences. But I'm a King Crimson addict, so I'll never get into that, very much. Branca is only a curiosity to me. Couldn't possibly abide an entire album of that kind of thing, I'd run out of the room.

Fripp tried this sort of thing 10 years earlier on the Islands-album, on the Sailor's Tale, the last few minutes, especially. It's the weakest track on that album (if you disregard the last track which shouldn't even be on there), and Branca was one-dimensional. But essence is essence.

Surf rocker Rhet Stoller (not the Elvis Stoller) penned this classic footy jingle for BBC in 1970. Not a lot of people know that. The recording has apparently been deleted and lost. Other versions exist, though.
Listened to it on "Sports Report" (theme song on the radio) in the 1980s, when I won my first significant football bet, I remember it hazily, I think I needed Nottingham Forest to win at home, and the score was 2-2, from 0-2, way into overtime, and then Viv Anderson scored, and I collected £150 in back then money, which was Fort fucking Knox to me, at the time. I never got to thank him, but I asked Peter Shilton to, when he visited Aarhus once, in a reenactment of the 1983 England v Denmark EURO qualifier penalty (Shilton saved Simonsen's reprise shot), but somehow I don't think the message was delivered... I wish I'd owned a digital camera that time around. Whatever. Thanks, Viv. I spent it on CBM64 software and Guld Tuborg.
