Ugly Racing Cars

#1

Post by Cheeveer »

Some odd sportscars in the 80's were hardly eyecandy

Image

Lancia LC-1, entered by Scuderia Sivama in the 1983 Monza 1000km. The 81 and 82 works LC-1's were beautifull but not really that with the roof.

Image

The reincarnation of the CanAm-series included some pretty futuristic looking cars

Re the pic you posted ^^^ (but has gone now(?)its the Schkee DB3 driven by Tom Kausler. The lay-down engine car I cant recall the name of either....
Schkee DB-3

Schkee DB-1

Based on a F5000 Lola T332 the DB1 was built in 1977. The DB-3 looks like more of the same.....
There was also a DB-4

There might be some dispute to this, but anyone from the UK who remembers the Austin Metro will probably agree with me:

Yes........ good job the 'sponsor' on the front spoiler was not predeeded by 'AT', because that would not be the case with this car. :haha:

The Bugatti Tank...

Image

Yes, it had a streamlined body, which was very revolutionary at the time, but it looks like a Tonka toy...

I wouldn't call the Chaparrall 2J ugly. The opposite in fact! All the Chaparrall's were beauties.

Similarly, Smokey Yunick's car that he raced at Indy. Well, I think he tried to qualify, but failed. Is that correct?:
