Wow, cant believe he would have been 80. I still vividly remember when I heard of his accident I think on a Saturday night. The news came through that his daughter had been killed instantly but Mike and his son were both injured, Mike very badly but his son not so bad. Mike died a couple of days later. IIRC his wife wasnt feeling well so he took the kids with him to get Fish n Chips so no one had to cook.

I also remember the truck driver who caused the double fatality got away with a minor fine and nothing else. A double killer, he should have got jail.

Yesterday we lauded the anniversary of Senna's masterpiece in the rain at Donington 1993.

Today we laud another masterpiece: 50 years ago.
"Can someone tell Pedro it's raining???"

70 years ago today, Silverstone played host to the first ever Grand Prix that was part of a World Championship.
Now 70 years on we have had over 1000 WDC Grand Prix.
In that time we have celbratred 33 world champions, 108 Grands Prix winners, 764 drivers and more than 150 teams, there's a lot to look back on for F1's 70th anniversary.

And the same day Danny Ric won Monaco!

An utterly brilliant, sleepless night.

Re Bruce McLaren indeed a great man. I recently watched the documentary movie about him. Here is an article about the man, from Motorsport Mag in 1999.
