Boring for drivers and spectators. Nobody liked it in my time. Guess things have changed, when even a borodrome is mourned - you guys don't even know what you've missed out on!
But not for the most important thing of all, TV.

At least the old Hockenheim was unique, the new one could be any other cookie cutter grade 1 track. It's not even that the races at the place got any better due to the changed layout either.

Hock would be fairly shit with modern DRS though. But it would still be different.

I dont think theat DRS would make a huge difference at somewhere like the old Hockenheim.... the teams would running such low levels of downforce anyway the benefits of DRS would be minimal. Just a thought, but Im no aero guru.

I think they would have run some higher downforce levels for the stadium complex. On the straights they could use the DRS then.

And I'm not thinking of F1 when thinking about old Hockenheim but 500GP. Slipstream battles which you only will find at circuits such as Dundrod or the NW200 or, in fact the Isle of Man these days, since Monza also has been discarded by WSB

i always find it weird how people say old hockenheim was boring but nobody mentions how boring monza is. i mean i like monza and all but its my least favorite track to drive on in games and the car racing there is mostly dull, unlike the superbike races there but thats history as well.

How good or bad a track is, should not be measured with looking how good or bad the Formula 1 races are on that track.

I'm trying to find the time/energy to do a full GP distance race at Monza on GPL. The practice races I have had doing 15-20 laps at a time were kind of boring because you can "relax" so much on the straights. 2-3 hours at Monaco or Nurburgring sounds too intense though.

Another vote for Mulsanne straight at Le Mans here, really takes from the main attraction of the track IMO

Most dramatic changes to iconic circuits were made before I have seen F1 cars for the first time, so I don't mourn them too much. But I guess the old Interlagos, Zadvoort or Spa were amazing tracks.

I became the F1 fan in the 90s, so I quite miss old Hockenheim or 90s Spa-Francorchamps.
The first one was very unique, but I think it would be unfit for modern F1. New circuit is pretty good for racing, but lacks the spirit...
Although modern Spa has almost the same layout as in the 90s, I miss that feeling of temporariness of the track (public road sections between La Source and Les Combes, and Stavelot and La Source and the original Bus Stop chicane)...

I am not a fan of modern Prima Variante at Monza - I liked the Variante Retiffilo double chicane.
And I miss a little bit the old Imola.
