Fair play. But thanks for your help. In modern times, Schumacher is by far the oldest driver to start a Grand Prix at 43, followed by Nigel Mansell in 1995 who was 42 and Pedro De La Rosa who was 41.

Kimi has been the oldest driver on the grid since Mark Webber retired at the end of 2013.

Kimi is 40 this year. Next up of the current grid are Kubica and Hamilton, both 34. (Kubica is a slightly older 34, by a month)

http://daistwasdran.de/millenni.htm

A decade starts with year xxx1 and ends with xxx0 as there was no year "0".

So e.g. the 1980s started on 1 January 1981 and ended 31 December 1990. That is a fact, although nobody applies to that... no matter where or who.
Bullshit. A decade is just a period of ten years, irrespective of when it starts. It could start right on this day, April 1 in 2019, and would then last until March 31 in 2029. Nothing wrong with that. But the decade of "the eighties" definitely started on January 1 in 1980, and ended on December 31 in 1989. 1990 was part of the eighties? Now, that's an interesting piece of wisdom! :haha:

I remember celebrating the new millennium at 00:00 on 1/1/2000. And the City had fireworks to mark the occassion.
Definitely not 2001.

... just to keep this on for a while...

It wasn't my point, of course any period of ten years is a decade, including any arbitrary span of ten years; for example, the statement that "during his last decade, Mozart explored chromatic harmony to a degree rare at the time" merely refers to the last ten years of Mozart's life without regard to which calendar years are encompassed.

A popular and frequently referenced interval is based on the tens digit of a calendar year, as in using "the 1960s" to represent the decade from 1960 to 1969. Sometimes, only the tens part is mentioned (60s or sixties), although this may leave it uncertain which century is meant. These references are frequently used to encapsulate popular culture or other widespread phenomena that dominated such a decade.

However, the Gregorian calendar begins with the year 1. (There was no year "zero", and the year before AD 1 is 1 BC with nothing in between.) Therefore, its first decade is from AD 1 to AD 10, the second decade from AD 11 to AD 20, and so on. So, although "the 1960s" comprises the years 1960 to 1969, the years 1961 to 1970 comprise "the 197th decade" of the calendar, which can also be referenced as "the seventh decade of the 20th century".

I get your point, and you are of course right with the millennium nonsense that was unloaded on us a year early, but this here has nothing to do with that. It's called the "(nineteen)sixties", not the "197th decade", so it's immaterial whether there was a year 0, or not.

So when will we see an F1 driver born in new millenium? Next year? Who will it be?

Indycar already have a race-winner born in 2000.

Indycar already have a race-winner born in 2000.
Now we have four drivers from the 2000s. Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant, Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson.

All of them have scored points. Piastri has been on the podium a few times and has already won an F1 race.
Who will be the 1st Grand Prix winner?!

@sebbbl this may be relevant info to add here re the Millennials. :idunno:

I know these following names have not started a GP, but they have at least officially become part of a GP weekend by nature of their FP1 running (which drivers that have only tested an F1 car cannot claim). An official GP participation means these drivers following are now officially listed as F1 drivers:

Driver Team Event/year. (All only involvd in FP1 only)
Frederik Vesti Mercedes, Mexico. 2023 .....born 2002
Felipe Drugovich Aston Martin Italy 2023... born 2000 (also did FP1 for AM Abu Dahabi 2022
Jack Doohan Alpine Mexico 2023.... born 2003 (also did Mexico and Abu Dhabi 2022)
Theo Pourchaire Alfa-Romeo Mexico 2023.... born 2003
Isak Hadjar Alpha Tauri. Mexico 2023 .... born 2004
Ollie Bearman Haas. Mexico (also scheduled for Abu Dhabi) 2023.... Born 2005!

Those FP1 appearances may yet have additional names added to the above as teams have to run a rookie in at least 2 FP1 sessions.

Two confirmed names that will join the list are:
Zak O' Sullivan Williams at Abu Dhabi 2023. He was born Feb 2005.
Franco Colapinto will also appear at Abu Dhabi in the other Williams. He was born 2003.

EDIT: I have just read Colapinto MIGHT NOT be doing FP1 at Abu Dhabi but just the post race rookie F1 test.

There may be others yet to be confirmed for FP1 sessions this year that will qualify to join the "Millennium F1 Drivers. Club".

PS I am not getting involved in or taking sides in when the decade started. To me this Millennium starts with a '2', anything from the last one starts with a '1'.
All these drivers whose names I have added were born in years starting with a 2 :haha:
