NASCAR legend James Hylton dies in traffic crash

Post by theracer120 » 5 months ago

Tragically his son died in the same incident.

https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2018/ ... -accident/

The main part of James's career in NASCAR Cup was over the period of around 30 years from the mid-60s onwards. He then made headlines by attempting to make the Daytona 500 at the age of 72 in 2007. He finally retired from racing in 2013.

He never had the funding of the top drivers of the time and he only ever managed 2 victories, but he scored 18 second places and there's only a couple of non-championship winning drivers who have more top-10 finishes.

There's some nice footage of James Hylton battling with Bobby Isaac here, unfortunately James got in a big crash in this race which meant he could no longer beat Bobby for the championship.
