Bottom post of the previous page:

I have read hundreds of articles on the internet and in magazines , books about Ayrton's death and of all of them one thing i truly
believe is this statement
The autopsy on Ratzenberger [who died the day before] indicated that his death had been instantaneous. Under Italian law, a death within the confines of the circuit would have required the cancellation of the entire race meeting. That, in turn, could have prevented Senna's death.
The relevant Italian legislation stipulates that when a death takes place during a sporting event, it should be immediately halted and the area sealed off for examination. In the case of Ratzenberger, this would have meant the cancellation of both Saturday's qualifying session and the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday.

Never thought of that aspect.... although I am aware that they always seemed to miraculously get drivers with critical injuries off the circuit asap for them to pass away elsewhere.

It is highly ironic that had the laws of the land had been upheld re Ratzenberger's death, Senna would have survived by 'non starting'.

It was this law that prevented fast medical attention to Ronnie Peterson when he crashed at the start of the Italian GP in 1978.

If I remember correctly, there were initially more worries about Brambilla who had been knocked unconcious in that crash. Didnt Peterson die due to poor hospital conditions?

Brambilla was hit by a loose wheel and was unconscious. Hans Joachim Stuck was in a shock.
Reggazoni was fuming towards the organisation or more the lack of it.

Peterson's life was not seen to be in any danger.
At the time there was more concern for Brambilla, who had been hit on the head by a flying wheel and was slumped comatose in his car.
Brambilla was seriously hurt and did not race again in Formula One until a year later
Peterson's X-rays showed he had seven fractures in one leg and three in the other. After discussion with him, Peterson was sent to intensive care so that the surgeons could operate to stabilize the bones.
There was some level of dispute between the physicians regarding whether all fractures should be immediately fixed or not.
During the night, Peterson's condition worsened, and he was diagnosed with fat embolism.
By morning he was in full renal failure due to the embolism, and was declared dead at 9:55am on 11 September 1978. :rip:

based on the yellow light thing, I tend to agree it was steering failure. the part where it cuts away from the onboard is probably when the steering wheel detached completely.

All that video confirms is that different people have different opinions on what happened. It is interesting to have all those views grouped together.

Do you know what?

I really think the rear of the Williams started to slide ride at the moment before he shot off the track.

Look at it, just before the final dark patch of tarmac. Watch the track ahead like a racing driver would, rather than focusing on the steering wheel. It's a tank slapper. Maybe the force of him correcting broke the steering column. It looks so obvious with the video at that speed.

That's what I have said from day 1... I also believe Senna over corrected the initial slide hence the tank-slapper effect.

He straightened the wheel at that moment (rather than turning right), so I suppose it was more of a four-wheel drift. But to me, it's still very strange that the car continued in a straight line after that. The slide was much shorter in duration than his trip into the wall and he had plenty of time to steer out of it.

especially considering he was hard on the brakes - which means he anticipated to crash, rather than to continue.

I was wondering if our members here have recollections about watching Imola 94 live?

I am in no position to speak, as my first F1 'touches' were in 98.
But I'd be interested to hear the members' stories on here.

The one thing that sticks with me from the broadcast I saw, was the helicopter flying Senna away, and as the camera followed, you saw two cyclists on the street halting.
