Drivers who have driven for multiple teams
Topic title might be slightly misleading.
What I mean is: let's name the drivers, irrespective of series, who have driven for multiple teams (at least 4+).
The idea came after reading that, if Alonso wins the Monaco GP this weekend, he will be the first to do so for three different teams.
Drivers I can think of in the category of F1:
Alonso (4)
- Minardi (2001)
- Renault (2003-2006 & 2008-2009)
- McLaren (2007)
- Ferrari (2010-2013)
Raikkonen (4)
- Sauber (2001)
- McLaren (2002-2006)
- Ferrari (2007-2009, stated it would be his last)
- Lotus (2012-2013)
Patrese (6)
- Shadow (1977)
- Arrows (1978-1981)
- Brabham (1982-1983 & 1986-1987)
- Alfa (1984-1985)
- Williams (1988-1992)
- Benetton (1993)

Anyways, you should buy The Complete Book Of Formula 1. Andrea de Cesaris may ring a bell?

I guess the one thing that surprises me with De Crasheris in the stat zone is that most know he drove for more teams than any other driver, but, given his record in having the odd physical contact with others, be it cars or objects, but he actually scored points for 9 of those 10 teams. In those days that means he finished top 6 to score those points.Cheeveer wrote: Andrea de Cesaris may ring a bell?
No one has ever scored points for more different teams / constructors than Andrea. The same with engines.... he has scored points with more different engine makers than anyone else in WDC history. But also of course he tops the list of consecutive DNFs with 22
Going back to the whore angle then Sir Stirling Moss was a bit of a parlour favourite..... He actually I think matched the teams / constructors driven for number of De Cesaris. (10) Seeing as we have a few lists going here, lets have a list of the 10 for Moss:
Maserati
Vanwall
Lotus
Cooper
Mercedes
ERA
HWM
Connaught
BRM
Ferguson.
But no one scored more wins with different teams than Moss, (5)and no one has scored podiums with more teams (6) or WON GPs with more engine constructors (4 - Moss is matched by Fangio Berger, Prost and Lauda).
But if Moss is a whore then Fangio is the real Madame.....
Fangio managed to win World Championship titles with FOUR different constructors.

thanks for the replies and indeed the rather wise change of topic title
naturally we don't have to limit ourselves to F1. I imagine some NASCAR drivers must border on the line of infinity

Surely Moss only won WDC races with 4 teams?
Mercedes, Maserati, Vanwall and Rob Walker
"Makes of car" rather than "teams" would be the pedant's correction.

First one that comes to mind is Fangio of course but Joe Weatherly drove for no less than nine different teams during the course of a single season to win his second championship in 1963.

Hehehehe, of course you are right, and for my part I was clear to identify that I was talking more of manufacturers (Makers of cars) than teams. So I will raise your Mercedes, Maserati and Vanwall, adding a Cooper and a LotusEB wrote:Surely Moss only won WDC races with 4 teams?

I must admit that I thought that at some stage Moss had swapped his Walker Lotus for a works car, winning in the works car. I think it was probably Ireland's car he used....
In fact it was with 'I.I.', at the Italian GP of 1961 that Moss swapped a Walker Lotus 18 car that SSM could not get on with the works Lotus 21 of I.I.... Moss never won on that day, so that blows that possibility.

Mika Salo raced for seven teams in F1
Lotus
Tyrrell
Arrows
BAR
Ferrari
Sauber
Toyota
On the rallying side, Juha Kankkunen springs to mind... If you only count factory teams he raced for six different manufacturers (Toyota, Peugeot, Lancia, Ford, Subaru, Hyundai) and won World Championships for three of those makes (Toyota, Peugeot, Lancia).
As far as raw numbers go, though, Didier Auriol trumps that with factory entries for eight manufacturers (MG Rover, Ford, Lancia, Toyota, Subaru, Seat, Peugeot and Skoda).
Kenneth Eriksson also has six (VW, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Hyundai, Skoda).
