Isn't it possible to just have the whole setup thingy on a pen drive? I don't mind using something from a torrent site.Computer Technical Support Thread

I don't know why you'd use Linux to format the drive when the Windows 7 setup CD has a perfectly acceptable hard drive formatting facility as part of the process.
The only problem you may encounter is the Windows 7 installation not seeing the Windows 8 hard drive properly. Just takes some changes in the BIOS though to sort that out. Like turning one or two things off.

Well yes you could do it Paul's way too, I forgot the windows install usually has a format built in
I have a good excuse, I usually only install TinyXP or Tiny7, both of them have the format element removed from the installer.

What program do I need to use to join files like .r01, .r02, etc...? I've tried Winrar but it won't work for me. On my old PC I had a free program which joined and split files. Can't remember what it is though.

tried 7zip?
either Winrar or 7zip, right click on lowest number and select extract or extract here.
If Winrar or 7zip won't extract, either the rar's are corrupt or incomplete, was there any par files included?

Thanks, just tried HJSplit and it wouldn't recognise the files. I'll try 7zip.

Hehehehe..... I remember the first time I noticed 7zip in my programme list - I thought it was one of those programmes that gets added on the sly with some peripheral utilities and updates, so I un-installed it in fear it might be something nasty.
Edit: Better throw in that I now know of it as being a bona-fide and vaguely honourable programme

If 7zip can't extract it, nothing will, best delete whatever was causing grief and run a virus scan lol.

What's causing grief is Windows 8. Perhaps I should delete that.

Funnily enough I was going to ask about Win 8, or 8.1 as it now is I think. When I bought my new comp it came with W8, but as there were not many members of the W8 fan club back then, I asked for Win7 Pro instead. I was going to ask if it was worth it yet (better with W8.1)kals wrote:What's causing grief is Windows 8. Perhaps I should delete that.
Im happy with W7 , but thought maybe W8 was now fully sorted, becoming the 'bees bits and more' and worth the change. I'm guessing from comments here it is still stick to W7?
At least it is the devil I know.....

The words "Windows" and "fully sorted" don't go in the same sentence.

EDIT: Sandeep, I noticed you deleted your post. If you're still having problems, I've already written this
Presumably if uTorrent works, it means you torrent. Perhaps you picked up a virus. First try this:
1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. ...
2. At the command prompt type: netsh winsock reset catalog and press [Enter].
3. Next type: netsh int ip reset reset.log and press [Enter].
4. Restart your computer
If this gets you an internet connection, then download and run this tool. If not, then find a way to get this on your computer (like via memory stick from another PC):
