Bottom post of the previous page:

I wasn't shure if i should open a new topic for this, but are there more on this forum who build their own pc's??

I have build two pc's in my "career". But i am busy to build a small one now.

Only i have a slight problem. Connecting those wires. I mean: Power Led, Speaker, Reset, etc.... I have found a manual on the internet from the mainboard but not a manual from the case. The wire names don't match with the names on the mainboard. Even the names in the mainboards manual don't match with the ones on the mainboard.

Yes, these can be a pain... I have had PCs where I left some unconnected. Generally you need power/reset buttons and the speaker (for error beeps). You can hear when your PC works or when the hard drive is busy, right?

Stuff like this (ASUS) can be very helpful, but not everyone provides them:

Me and Erwin discussed it on MSN and I told him what needs to go where. Whether I was helpful or not remains to be seen.

i have replaced my AMD Athlon 3500+ xp CPU with an AMD Athlon 6400+ dual core.

do i have to make some changes in the bios? with the 3500 NR2003 worked great, with the 6400 it is slower, almost as if the framerate dropped massively.

Yes, you need to reset the BIOS. I would recommend using the jumper on the motherboard.

I've never had problems updating the BIOS on my ASUS motherboard.

There should be an ASUS EZ Flash option in the BIOS menu. You just download the latest BIOS, put the .bin file in your root C:\ drive and it should update ok.

went horrible wrong. flashed it. It saw the cpu. But went straight into a menu where it asked wich raid drivers i wanted for the pc. And wanted to write a floppy drive. I don't have a floppy drive.

reentered bios and resetted default setup..

So i could get back into windows.

im back... the mainboard recognises the 6400!

Maybe it is useful to place these posts about the bios in the "Computer Technical Support Thread".

Still using the same system, currently running stable for 1 hour in OCCT stress test tool at 3.24GHz. FSB is currently set at 270MHz. I have managed to overclock the CPU by a whole 35% on air! Next step would be to try and take it to 275MHz, which would increase it to 3.3GHz, which would be a 37.5% overclock.
